Any one else doing a non dj wedding? I'm starting to put all of my songs together, and would love to get some input/suggestions. A dj really isn't in the budget, plus our venue doesn't really lend itself to a big dance party, nor is that something that is super important to FH and I. We will have a first dance, and parents dance, and then I think just background music as people mingle and drink. I am looking for a mix of old school R&B and "indie" rock, with of course a few classics mixed in.

is the playlist so far, not organised at all, if anyone would like to check it out.

What are your must play songs, what do you really want to hear that day, has anyone had success or disappointment with a self DJed reception?

My FH's brother and wife did this for their wedding. They didn't want to spend a lot of money for their wedding, and lets be honest, a DJ is pretty expensive. So they nixed it and just had an iPod like thing going on. Them as a couple aren't partiers or dancers so it worked perfect for them, and it sounds like it would work perfect for you guys. It's your wedding, no one else's, so do what's right for you guys.

They didn't do a big entrance, or first dance or anything like that so they didn't need a DJ to organize anything. For those guests that DID want to dance, they were able to go over and pick songs that they wanted to play. It's not what I would do for my own personal wedding, but for them it was perfect and what they wanted.
