Spray tan...has anyone here ever gotten one?

Lisa, on April 30, 2010 at 11:22 AM Posted in Planning 0 20

Did you like it, or regret it? Would you suggest it to a friend or talk them out of it?

My sister is offering to pay for a spray tan for me since I can't actually go tanning. I burn, peel, stay red for a few days and go back to being pale again. I would like to have a little color on my wedding day but I don't know if spray tan really works or will it be all streaky?

And I'm so used to being pale that I don't even know if I should do it. Like I said I want a LITTLE color. But will even a level 1 spray tan make me too dark?

The spray tans are very natural at the lower setting. DO NOT do the ones where you stand in the booth, horrible, streaky, you can't breath when it shoots that stuff at you - actually made me have a panic attack!

I did the airbrush tan for my friends wedding, and it was wonderful. It does require you stand naked in front of the person doing it, but if you're not to modest it's worth it. The only thing I noticed was on areas that havent seen the sun (stomach, upper thighs), it starts to look like freckels, and get splotchy. But on my ams, shoulders, and lower legs, it's still holding on strong. I would recommend the airbrush. My cousin did the booth where is sprays tan on her and it was awful, almost to dark and streaky.

Lisa - I work at a spa/tanning salon and we have a spray tanner, it's an open concept booth so it sprays all around you and it's totally different then the actual booths. With that said, if you want a tan for your wedding I would suggest going in a few days before for sure, incase you don't overly love it. They base the levels on height so they will tell you what level is best for you, is it a booth or do they spray you? I never let any brides do the spray tan the day before the wedding, because it can get kind of nasty on your hands -due to the fact our hands have little to no pigmentation and color just sticks to them. I know that many girls get them for wedding and they love it, one thing you want to ask yourself is everyone else in your wedding tan? How tan do you want to be? You could do a level one a couple days before and then some of it will wash away.

I have done it a few times. I'm really pale so for special occasions I'll get the low setting to add a little color and glow. It sometimes can be streaky you just have to watch their instructional video and follow exactly what they say to do when you get out. I have it down pretty good now that I don't streak anymore. Plus I wear loose clothing for the remainder of the day and don't go to bed right after. My friend did this and got tiger mark streaks on her face from being on the pillow. ha!

I believe its a booth, I would be going this sunday. So 5 days before my wedding...and I am the only super pale person in my wedding party. 2 bridesmaids are very tan naturally, one os fairly tan by choice. Groom is a roofer so he gets all the sun in the world, and 2 groomsmen are african american.....so I look like a ghost compared to all of them. I joke all the time and tell FH that i'm really a vampire. =P

Lisa - I would go maybe a Level 2 then if your going 5 days before because they can wash off pretty well. Just make sure your body is super exfoliated (spray tans like to stick to areas that are dry and it's not pretty) and that you shave your legs a little bit before, so the night before or the early morning, etc. DO NOT go to get your spray tan with any makeup or lotions, etc. on your body as they act as a barrier and it will not give the best results. The way to make your tan last - don't over exfoliate afterwards, wash your body gently and lotion as much as you can that can make your tan last days longer for sure. Let me know if you have any other questions I know my p/t job comes in handy sometimes!

I did the booth spray on one time and I already had lots of color I just wanted to be a tad darker. I will never do it again I looked orange. I was so embarrased. The bottom of my feet were gross and so were my hands.. And if you do go make sure you wear something you dont really care much about to the tanning place. I had my fav shirt on (not knowing anything about it) and the tan ruined it. BOOOO. I think if you are going to do it, do is asap that way if you dont like it, it will fade away a tad by wedding.

So if I ALWAYS have dry areas, no matter what I do. I probably shouldn't do it? Like my elbows are always dry no matter what I do to them. Parts of my face too.

Its not a spray tan, but I started using Vaseline Natural glow (Jergens is good too) to get a little color for the begining of shorts season. i have gotten many compliments and people are amazed when i tell them it came out of a bottle.. I am only using it on my legs and i could see a difference after about 2 days. I think the only regret was at first i used it evenly but soon figured out that my "ankle" and "knee" areas color quickly so it looked funky. i now apply regular lotion to those spots first and dont rub the tan lotion in there, i smooth it over them at the end. It has made a difference and i think it looks even. Smiley smile Good luck!

I would be nervous about doing the booth tanning. I have heard plenty of horror stories about them. Especially people saying it made them look orange.

That's what I'm worried about, being orange! Airbrush I'm sure would be a little out of my budget. around here the booth tan is only $10. I was trying to use the lotions that have the gradual tanner in them, and they were working for a little while and IDK if my skin just got used to it, but it just stopped absorbing color.

I don't reccomend the booth. it does make u very streaky and orange and gross. I perfer standing in front of the lady and her airbrushing the tan on me. it goes on even and looks so natural. i tried to make sure that it looks good for my wedding so i did go get a airbrush tan. It was $30.00 where i live and was worth every penny. =]]

Yeah if it's an actual booth for $10 don't do it...honestly you get what you pay for. Our spray tan is a booth type but it's open and it's $30. I would check out airbrush if you want color that day for sure. And yes you can get gross feet and hands if you don't out enough barrier cream on or just lotion in general but your tanning salon should have told you that. See you need to make sure you come in loose dark clothing because it will stain clothes, hair, sheets, etc. It all washes out but doesn't look so good if your not going straight home. I think that because your getting married right away either you pay for the airbrush or forgo it...if you had more time I would tell you to do a trial run and if you have never had one before it can be scary and since it's your wedding you may totally hate the results and that would not be good.I never recommend spray tans for weddings, but that is just my personal opinion, I would only recommened it if it was airbrush or you've done them before.

Yea I don't think I'll do it. Maybe I'll switch to a different brand of the same type of lotion I've been using and hope that it gives me a little color =]. I don't want to chance being orange! Brandy you were way more than helpful and I'm glad I had someone who works in a tanning salon to help me! Thanks everyone.

I bought the "Salon Broze Sunless Airbrush Tanning System" at Sally's for 12.99 and Love It! It's a spray tan that you do yourself, I do mine in our shower because you will have a lot of over spray. I don't notice an orangy color or have any streaking. Everytime I use it people always compliment me on my tan and ask if I've been to the beach or out in the sun

Hello there! As a professional celebrity spray tanner, I can of course say that I love it and many celebrities love it! That’s why they all glow on the red carpet or look amazing for every event! Even the pale ones! I tan clients who are extremely pale, like myself and clients who are very dark too. Just tell you airbrusher exactly the tone you want to have for your special day! You can even show them a photo just in case! Avoid spray booths. Having a technician personally spray you will ensure that nothing is missed. Technicians also use a higher grade solution. Meaning you won’t be orange. The cheaper the solution the more orange the tan. You can do light, medium, or dark or anything in between. Do not wear any lotion or deodorant to your appt. That can interfere with the solution. Bare skin is the key. Avoiding streaking is simple! Just your hands in the shower to rub off the solution sitting on your skin. Do not let the water just run over your skin as it will miss some spots. Make sure you have rubbed it all off. NO loofahs! The only time you want to exfoliate your skin is right before you are about to get a new spray tan! XO
