My mom just made me supperrr upset right now. My mom is a retired nurse and I specifically asked her before I purchased our honeymoon bundle if I should buy travel insurance beverage of the virus and she said no. Right now we were talking and i told her my in laws said we should cancel our honeymoon. My mom said “yes you should”.
I said whaaaatt??? mom!! I just bought the package last week you said No dont buy the travel insurance. Thats 2,000 gone if we cancel. She said no the government will refund you. 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️ Mom there are no travel restrictions to Mexico. The government is not going give me my money if I cancel! (FYI we are going to puerto vallarta mexico in April 28th thru May 2nd)

So im definitely not a medical professional but I have a science background and I understand the Corona virus is scary but honestly we would be okay. Theres no health advisories for traveling to Mexico. I understand traveling in general puts you at higher risk to contract an illness. The media only tells us the virus is spreading and people are dying.
They aren’t telling us what percentage of people were already sick with preexisting conditions, if their age contributed to their death, if they contracted pneumonia because coronavirus is a respiratory virus, and they died because of pneumonia. They aren’t telling us what percentage of people are Actually Recovering From The Virus Like Its A normal Flu (influenza virus). Everyone is freaking out. Its scary. Yes it is. But lets think about how many die EVERY YEAR from the NORMAL YEARLY FLU (Influenza virus). This coronavirus is no where near the numbers of the regular flu.
Lets be safe & healthy and cautious and we will be okay. Some family members of mine just freak out instead of looking at a different way. His parents are making him freak out and im just like AHHHHH. We need to have a serious talk.

If you didn't purchase insurance I would just go on with your plans as normal and only change them if the travel advisory changes. We are likely to see a LOT more cases of the coronavirus throughout the USA and in new countries before then. Currently it appears to be highly contagious but similar to the flu. Death rates and spread rates are a bit higher but that's because we have woefully inadequate statistics right now and many mild cases of coronavirus are likely going unreported. If you are young and healthy you might get sick but it's unlikely it will have any lasting effect. If you or your partner have any chronic health conditions that would make you particularly susceptible (particularly immune or pulmonary issues) then I might be more cautious, but otherwise I would just wait it out at this point.

Also, I wouldn't rely on the US government to refund anything, so definitely don't bank on that, especially if there isn't a travel ban in place.

Our honeymoon will be Italy. Not likely northern Italy, but either way. We haven’t booked yet due to what’s going on and will re-evaluate in a months time as well as look into travel insurance. I’m not sure how that stuff works or if it’ll even help, but like I said we haven’t booked yet. Won’t be going until September.

I'm worried about our travel plans for sure. So we we're supposed to go to Japan in July. Yup, Japan. We've pretty much set everything to go. The only thing we were waiting on was the date. But now we're on edge as to where Japan will be in July. We're not worried about actually going to Japan or possibly even contracting the virus itself. The biggest concern is the quarantine to get back home. That's what scary. So we haven't cancelled yet because we're hopeful but we are coming to terms that we may have to eat what was already invested. We'll just have to keep watching.

I'm more concerned about the airports themselves. Anyone can be there from areas with issues. Thoughts??

My thoughts are constantly wash hands, bring travel hand sanitizer. Dont touch mucous membranes such as eyes nose & mouth. And take airborne/Emergen C a few days prior to traveling? What about you?

Airports are so empty right now! Flights are empty too and a lot of passengers have their own row. All the business travels have been cancelled. So because of fewer people flying, I think it'll reduce your risk of catching it.

Thats true that there are probably a lot less people flying. I read an article that air lines are taking a hit.

I was hoping it would be okay by July. My 83 year old dad (his family is from Asiago, Italy) and my mom are coming along too. I’d hate for them to get sick.

Don’t cancel. I work at a senior living community that also has a full skilled nursing facility (nursing home) on campus and they have given us the order that anyone that travels internationally has to wait 14 days before returning to work upon their return to the states, but that’s because of our population being the most vulnerable. No other restrictions, just some extra precautions to keep everyone healthy. They did actually go back around to everyone that refused the flu shot though and questioned why they refused it and required anyone without a medical reason to get it because that’s a bigger threat to the population at our community.

We’re booked to go to South Italy June 2-12. I’m waiting until May to make a decision but I’ll be very disappointed if we have to cancel. I keep worrying about it.

My goodness. I cannot believe the amount of ignorance in most of these Weddingwire forum posts. Thankfully I'm graduating from a top medical school.

"By the end of April, this whole "virus" thing might already be over and done with."

LOL. Are you kidding me? If you don't think this "virus thing" is real, you need to do some reading on the CDC Website, The New York Times, your local newspaper, or any reliable source of news information. It is because of ignorant people like you that so many vulnerable people over the age of 60 (possibly your parents or grandparents) will get infected soon, develop respiratory complications, and possibly die. DO NOT TRAVEL internationally until the outbreak has passed, especially to a country like Mexico that is not taking any preventative measures to contain this virus- and trust me on this fact, I lived there for over a decade and have extended family there. They have underreported the number of cases in Mexico (as they usually do with just about any serious issue like the number of kidnappings, murders, etc) and it is just a matter of time until they reach the same level of chaos as Italy. Don't be stupid and selfish. Even if YOU don't feel sick, you're posing a community health risk by infecting other people with your decision to travel.
