Spring/summer 2021 Wedding - to book or not to book?

Jenna, on April 8, 2020 at 2:41 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 7

Hi All!

My FH and I had just started planning when COVID happened. We are having a destination wedding, so we were planning to take a trip to look at venues this month (April). Given the current environment, we pretty much pressed pause and have not done any planning or booked anything. But now I am getting super nervous that we are going to have a hard time with availability for potential venue and vendors with all of the 2020 brides replanning. ** My heart absolutely breaks for those who are in this position and have had to make the tough choice to push their wedding out a year. I am so grateful to not be in that situation. I do not want this post to come off as insensitive; so many thoughts for those couples who are facing this. Smiley heart **

I've been waiting it out as there could also be the risk of small businesses closing, economic uncertainties, etc. However, my overwhelming feeling is that we need to start booking things sooner than later. Does anyone have an opinion or guidance? What have you done, and what have you been seeing if you are in a similar situation?

Thank you in advance!

Hi Jenna, we are in a similar situation got engaged over the holidays and we were venue shopping in NYC the week before the shutdown I’m March we that no one could have predicted. From talking to a lot of planners and venues they all pretty much told me the same thing that their 2021 dates which were pretty much open when we started planning a year and a half in advance, were filling up due to 2020 brides postponing. We went ahead and secured our venue and summer 2021 date with a deposit just because we weren’t willing to compromise on our venue and we felt very relieved and hopeful to know that we at least have a date and our dream venue to look forward to. Otherwise we haven’t planned anything else except for brainstorming and picking vendors we like that we’ll contact hopefully soon after businesses reopen. Hope this helps, stay positive!

I would start booking and finding venues. Especially with current brides postponing, it may be harder to secure vendors. I wouldn’t worry about corona for a wedding next summer.

Yes I would start booking right away for next year because of everyone that had to unfortunately postpone their 2020 wedding. Our wedding is April 2021 and we are planning everything as normal but we were lucky enough to have booked most of our vendors before this whole thing erupted

I would recommend booking your 2021 wedding, as a 2020 bride who is likely having to postpone her wedding until 2021, my venue already has April 2021 completely booked, so many brides have taken up 2021 dates and if things don’t get better in brights have to keep pushing back then there’s going to be a influx of weddings in 2021, hope this helps

I am in the same boat as you, We planned our wedding for May 2021. At first we were holding off on putting a deposit down on a venue because its non refundable and FH works for United Airlines and with everything going on we wanted to wait. Now we're learning a lot of couples are rescheduling for next year. So today we bit the bullet and put the deposit down on the venue just so we are guaranteed the day we want. I'm really hoping everything sorts itself out and everyone can have their special day.

    Hi Jenna,

Congrats on your engagement! I would absolutely recommend doing virtual tours of venues. A lot of venues are offering this feature! Some are even offering discounts to couples to get more weekdays/weekends booked.

I'm excited to see which venue you decide on!

    Good luck!

    Smiley heart
