Square Vs. Rectangular.. The table debate?!

MsJRod, on May 18, 2016 at 11:59 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 9

Both are an option... But I'm not sure which to choose?!

It's a small wedding of about 50 guests, inside reception.

How do you know what will look best?!? Any suggestions on this.. I never realized how many questions I could have regarding tables!!

Hmmm...what does the inside of your reception space look like? And do you know how many people each table sits?

I think I'd lean towards rectangular, just because it seems like square tables would fit less people and have more unusable space because of all the corners? Totally guessing here Smiley smile I also love the tablescapes you can do with rectangular tables!

I agree with WWLynnie, I think rectangle tables are a good idea. You can fit more to a table, which will likely be nice for the guests.

I think rectangles are more practical BUT gosh square tables are so unique and cute! Love that first picture!

As a guest I have actually felt very uncomfortable at rectangle tables. Not just at weddings but at any dinner with a bunch of people at one table. If I wanted to talk to someone who was seats and seats down I had to shout, and I usually end up just not talking because I have to talk over too many people and I'd rather not. Personally I'd rather just worry about having to talk to a few people than the bombardment of a rectangular table (but then again I also have social anxiety so there's that).

Personally I'd go with the square tables (we're doing round). I love how rectangle tables look decorated and they are very practical but they may make some guests feel uncomfortable. You know your crowd best though and what their preference would be. Smiley smile

Unfortunately, square isn't an option.. It's either round or rectangular. I have to check and see how many each table style will fit? (I was told that the rectangular table seats 3 on each side.. I'm assuming no one at the ends?? ) I will also definitely take into consideration the issue of potentially having guests feel less comfortable at a rectangular table!

    To be continued.. Thank you!!

You did say square in your title Smiley winking I'm guessing it was a mistake lol

I would prefer to sit at a circular table as a guest. It makes conversing with others at the table a lot easier.

    We're doing long farm tables.

They seat 10 people comfortably (12 if you put people on the ends, but we're only seating kids there) and have the added bonus of being pretty enough that I dont need to sacrifice my future firstborn to pay for linens.

Our venue had round tables as well that seated 10, but I honestly thought it was a REALLY tight squeeze (they're more realistic for 6-8 people), and they were totally ugly without super expensive linen rentals.

Rectangular for sure! We did two six foot tables long and one scoolie (narrow table) and one 30 inch wide. We had 12-14 at each table. I'll attach a pic.

I have to do a mix - due to numbers and space. The 6 person rectangular are nice they are small groups - but I feel like it actually makes seating harder.
