Stairs for aisle

Lauralou, on October 21, 2017 at 2:10 PM Posted in Planning 1 13

Has anyone walked down stairs as they came down the aisle? I was planning on having my ceremony in front of a fireplace and using the stairs to make my entrance but I'm nervous about tripping down the stairs. Should I plan an alternate aisle or just walk slowly down the stairs?

I've attending weddings where ppl have walked down and it's pretty the way the train flows down the steps as the bride comes down . Personally I'm too clumsy to do that but I guess you could practice leading up to it! It wouldn't look right if you were looking down while going down the steps

Take it slow and you will be fine. Walking up stairs in a long gown is harder than going down.

I have a lot of venues that have stairs as part of the processional. Take it slow, hold the handrail, if there is one.

Not sure if you plan on wearing heels or not, but if you are walking down stairs, I would recommend flats. You will be nervous on your wedding day and getting your heel caught on a step would be horrible! Stairs are pretty, just take it slow and use the handrail!

Not stairs, but my ceremony site was at the bottom of a hill. I figured w my dad walking me down and H walking me back up I'd make it okay. I wore relatively short heels (3 inches) and bought ones that strap on so I didn't have to worry about stepping right out of them, and it was fine.

I would advise that you just practice walking the steps in your dress and shoes. There were some wonky (very uneven) stone steps into my ceremony space with no handrail (outdoor garden setting). I had no problem with them when I was in flats and a short dress. But in 4in heels and a poofy dress with a train, I freaked out when I tried to go down the steps because I couldn't tell where the steps were and I am super accident-prone. I was so afraid I was going to fall, I forgot to pause for the photographer. Then, when I finally (and very awkwardly) made it down the steps to where my dad was standing, I was so flustered that I forgot to pause again for the photographer and then ended up racing down the very very short aisle. The only pictures I have of me coming down the aisle are the super awkward ones of me coming down the steps. No pics of my father and me either because of how fast I went. You can see in the video my BIL took that I basically shoved the photographer out of the way with my dress and am practically dragging my dad. I also was so flustered, I forgot to look at H while walking down the aisle. Luckily, our photographer got a photo of his expression. If I could go back to do it again, I would not have done the steps. Even though the background was not as pretty, I would have come into the ceremony a different way. ETA - lack of handrail was a big factor.

I walked down three steps and it went fine! I had my parents go first and wait for me to go alone down the steps so I would be less likely to trip.

Our ceremony is on the steps of a 1 room school house. I'm not too concerned about falling if I take it slow

I'll be clutching my daddy for several reasons. I love the man, but I'll love him even more for helping me not fall on my face lol.

My ceremony was at the top of approximately 7 steps. Apparently, the DOC told the bridesmaids to help me count the steps as we descended at the end of the ceremony. I will never forget one of my bridesmaids looking right at me, counting "ONE... TWO... THREE...". It was great!

And, makes for a great photo.

Not helpful really, but I literally just watched a video that popped up on my facebook feed about a bride falling down the stairs at her reception. I told FH "good thing we won't have stairs." I am seriously accident prone.
