Standard bouquet size?

Alexis, on July 14, 2011 at 1:56 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 29

Good morning!

I'm shopping for my bouquet right now and am wondering if there's a standard size for brides? I'm going with silk flowers because what I want will not be in season and I'm finding that most websites describe the size in diameter - looking at my ruler simply isn't cutting it, so I want to know the size of your bouquets! Just to clarify, I'm going for something with roses, peonies and ranunculus. I've attached a picture of my dress if that helps, there's a belt that goes with it. Please help Smiley smile

I have always heard that your bouquet shouldnt be bigger than your head. Smaller bouquets are in nowadays. Your dress isnt super poofy so I wouldnt go with a large Bouquet.

Just random Googling! I've seen some on Etsy. Any recommended sites would be good, too.

Some say they are 6-7 inches in diameter. Others 11-12. I'm not sure what standard is.

I would watch some youtube tutorials, I saw one that used only 18 roses and I thought it was too small. So I would do like 25-30 stems.

Also if you have a hobby lobby near you they're on sale right now 50% off.

I was always under the impression the bride bouquet shoulbe be bigger than her smallest part of her waist.

I think the number of flowers you use depends on the type (size) of flowers to tell you the truth. If you are using all large flowers then you would need to use less to get the size you like/want, but if they are all small flowers then you would need way more.

**The Bridal Bouquet is usually always larger than the BM bouquets.**

Upon a quick google search, I have stumbled across these answers -

My florist quoted somewhere between 24-30 flowers (roses & orchids)

Mine had 35 white roses with lilies of the valley scattered on the perimeter (didn't say how many Lilies it had though)

I used a bunch of roses (so 25 stems), 3 stems of hydrangea, baby's breath, and greenery and it was a pretty large bouquet. For bridesmaids' bouquets, I used about 10 roses + greenery.

It depends on the look you're going for. Some bouquets are larger and some are smaller - overall, it should be in proportion to you and the dress.

As you can see, it depends upon you and what you want/like. Are you having a round bouquet or are you having a cascading bouquet? Things such as that.

I am doing my own, but I am buying real in bulk and will just keep adding flowers until I like the size/how it looks.

I think it also depends on your size... When I was talking to florist early on in my planning I was told that a bouquet with anything more than 18 roses would be too big for me.. I'm only 4'11" ... the florist said a larger bouquet would also get very heavy

I agree with Krisitna on this one, it all depends on how big your flowers are. Just make sure it is not too big, then it gets heavy and uncomfortable. You can use less flowers and adorn it with the bouquet crystals they sell, to give it an extra umph!

I used 30 white roses in mine and it is 13 inches in diameter.

Being a plus sized bride I wanted my bouquet to be a tad larger then normal.

Being bigger and having a small bouquet just makes you look bigger( if that makes any sense).

    My bouquet 13 inches

    MOH's bouquet is 10 inches

    BM's bouquet are 8 inches

Flowergirl's bouquet is exact same replica as mine but 7 inches

Jen I was laughing at that same comment..

I guess I should just tie a pretty brown bow to the tropical forest and haul it around as my bouquet. LMAO

I never even considered the weight - I'll have to take that into consideration. I'm thinking I want a round bouquet.

    @Suzanne, your bouquets look great!

Thank you Alexis, it was my first attempt at floral designs, but I had help from someone who has made bouquets in the past.

Lol. But what's big and what's small? Sounds like a stupid question, but I have no clue, especially if I order one online - there's no seeing it in real life beforehand. I guess I'm going to have to track one down at a store for a trial run!
