Starry Sky?

Chip, on September 13, 2016 at 12:25 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 10

Has anyone used (or is planing to use) a laser projector to get a starry sky effect?

Our venue doesn't allow us to hang things from the ceiling or on the walls (its historic), and quite frankly I don't want to buy a bunch of twinkle lights, so I thought a laser projector would be a good compromise. Has anyone used one? Likes or dislikes? Buy or rent? Probably only going to be used for dancing portion of night.

the ceiling is black with exposed rafters and beams

Sounds interesting. Would it cover the entire ceiling or only over the dance floor?

The ones i've seen online look to be able to project enough coverage for the whole room, but I think i'd like it over the dance floor mostly, id be worried that the beams would interfere with it reaching the entire room

Omg i wanted the same effect and my venue doesn't let us hang things either. I thought about twinkle lights because my venue also has beams but it has to be done by a professional and that was just out of budget for me. I didnt know they made machines for that I'll have to look into

That is a genius idea! Wish I would have thought of this. Where would you place the projector for lights though?

I'm thinking of placing it near the DJ, they will be in the corner on a platform, so i would think that would be the best place?

Awesome, thanks! I've seen that one for rent, but hadn't seen any for sale

We are in Clarksville TN. Our DJ has a bunch of lights for us to use, but I don't believe he's got one of those

So I love this idea, especially since my reception venue decided after I signed the contract to put a roof on the deck and nix the night sky view. Smiley sad

But just wondering where you would place it so that people don't walk in the line of the effect?

I'm thinking up off the ground behind/beside the DJ? Angled towards the ceiling vs straight up or out. ETA spelling

We were going to do this too! We ordered a Star Shower one from Amazon. We tried it at home and it was a little overpowering but we are thinking we will take it to the venue to see it there since it's obviously a much bigger space, and maybe it will be a little more subtle. We are wondering the same...will it be able to tilt up toward the ceiling and avoid people walking in front of the laser line, plus I don't want people staring directly at it! I'm still on the fence about it but ours only cost about $50. Our thinking was we can always use it for Christmas in front of our house!
