"Staycation" Style Honeymoon?

Kayla, on February 23, 2017 at 12:44 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 17

So, our wedding will be on the 31st of December (anyone that knows me on here, knows that we have been super wishy washy on dates), and school starts back for me on January 8th. Because of this, we're planning a small, 3-4 day honeymoon, in Raleigh NC. Has anyone done this type of honeymoon, and how did it go? How did you find new "romance" in your home city?

Our other option is to take a few days and rent out a cabin the mountains, but we are still weighing options.

Thanks!

That's what I'm thinking! There are lots of things to do in the area.

We aren't doing a stay cation but are staying close to home and only going for a long weekend. I'm in Charlotte and we're making the long trek to Hilton Head lol

I recommend definitely getting away even if it's in the mountains. The way you get disconnected and devote that time specifically to you and your husband to be.

Indeed it's a beautiful state! Grandfather Mountain, Hanging Rock SP and the Biltmore are some of our faves. Historic battlegrounds, even if you're not in to war stuff, is fascinating.

But to answer your question, you could stay in a fancy hotel downtown and find a new restaurant for dinner each night. ETA: or come on down to Charlotte Smiley smile

The idea for the staycation idea was to stay at a nice hotel and do day trips each day, but I do worry that it will end up being just as pricey, and not quite special enough.

The mountains were the original idea, but I'm not sure how likely snow will be.

Lindsey, my brother is in Matthews. They also bought a condo in North Myrtle Beach. It's getting harder to stay in Michigan for us Smiley smile

@Lindsey Charlotte is actually a good idea that I hadn't thought of! Any ideas for where to stay/what to do?

Yay for Charlotte! It's a great place- I myself am a northern transplant and have been here 10 years already. Trying to get my parents to move too haha. As far as suggestions, what do you like to do? There are tons of good restaurants uptown and the brewery scene is really taking off here if that's your thing! Uptown is very walkable and you can find plenty to do without driving. The light rail will also take you to any other areas such as South End which are cool to see as well.

Charlotte is nice because you can quickly dip in to SC. We loved the botanical gardens there! How about the amusement park--is it open all year?

If you like Nascar, the museum is there.

Mint Museum uptown is also a cool place to see. I love Romare Bearden park- it's a nice little green park with spectacular city views and a colorful waterfall

Yes! We're returning to FL from a DW and will spend a couple nights in St. Augustine.

I love museums! Carowinds would have been a hit, but in December it would most likely be way too cold haha. Museums, nice restaurants, shopping, music scene, etc. Those are all things we love to do!

We did a three day weekend to our favorite convention about an hour away from where we live.

We're taking a week away and just going about 2.5 hours away from our house and just hitting up local attractions. Amusement parks, museums, little treatments for ourselves!
