Stealing my bridal thunder--- major vent!!!

LooSha, on December 18, 2013 at 10:19 PM Posted in Planning 0 44

So my sister just let me know that my aunt who OFFERED to host my bridal shower at her home will also be hosting a baby shower for her daughter at her home the day before. GRRRRR!!! Her daughter's baby will be almost 3 months old at the time. Wth!!!!!! This means some of my family will have to choose to go to either event. Annoying.

...baby showers don't usually happen AFTER a baby is born...that's a bit odd. why can't your family go to both?

I don't think it will steal your thunder. There's no reason people can't go to both! It is weird to have a baby shower after the baby is born but oh well!

I would have my shower somewhere else. Tell your Aunt "thanks, but no thanks. . ."

That sounds like way too much for her to be hosting in one weekend.

I would say it doesn't work for you that weekend and offer a different weekend.

Her daughter lives in a different state, so having a baby shower in CA while she was pregnant just didnt happen. So shes kinda piggy backing on my bridal shower, like "hey, im in town, so ill have a shower too!" My aunts/cousins/other families are just not likely to all travel twice in one weekend for showers. Money is tight for all of us right now, and gas isnt cheap!

The thing is i CHOSE that weekend months ago! I wanted to have a valentines themed bridal shower, so it is going to be on feb 15th. Not intruding on peoples valentines days with their hunnys. She will be very offended if i say no thanks.

They are on two seperate days....Your guest should still be able to make your shower. They shouldn't have to choose to attend one or the other...

They call them sip and see's it's not all that uncommon. Most have them after the child is 6weeks old. I have had two of them.

I don't understand who this takes away your thunder and if people want to come to yours they will also come to yours. It doesn't sound like she is piggy backing on your shower but more so making it convenient for her stay since she lives in another state in all. If she wanted to steal your thunder she could of done it on the same day.

    Agreed with TooManyMistys..

The people who want to be at your shower will still be there.

They aren't going to be like "oh I had a baby shower to attend the day before so I won't be able to make it"

But it's a different event. Bridal showers are so much fun. As long as she comes up with fun games it will be much more fun than a baby shower. I mean it's really not that big of a deal, it's such a minute detail in the grand scheme of things.

I was about to comment that maybe she didn't know she was pregnant and they were having a post-baby shower.

Don't see the issue. People might not choose between - they might go to both. Baby showers and wedding showers are completely different.

30 years ago, my baby shower was AFTER my son was born. Bevy of reasons for this...mom's medical issues and on bedrest, location, etc. We wanted my family and friends to be able to meet Michael, too...so we waited until he was born and a few weeks old.

Personally, I think anyone who is not going to attend BOTH, would not be attending both, anyway...even if they were months apart. =)
