Steaming wedding dress

Anna, on March 22, 2020 at 4:45 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

I bet this is a dumb question, but i honestly don't know. Because of the state wide lockdown, instead of the original date of april 6th for pickup its now tomorrow. They are calling all the brides to pick up their dresses cause they are staying open by appt but they will have to shut down soon. My thing is, since i'm picking it up tomorrow, will it stay wrinkle free? Will it affect if i get it steamed this early? I'm just worried lol. My wedding is on april 18th. Thank you.

The likelihood of it staying wrinkle free might not be so high. I would definitely recommend leaving it in a garment bag or box. If you can lay it flat would be even better.

Hotels may have professional steamers, but we asked and ours do not. So we are going to get one from Amazon for less than $100. Don’t use a non-professional one, they may spit water onto your dress, causing water staining.

I would think you'd want to steam it as close to the wedding as possible. Buy or rent a pro steamer to do it yourself. Or try to find a dry cleaner near your wedding who can do it the day before or even day of.

I wish wouldve told me that. Of course it's all money. But I feel like she will and I spent all that money for nothing cause I feel like I will end up getting it steamed again. All this situation sucks

Is your dress a type of material that would get wrinkles? I feel confused about this too lol im not sure if in the future I would need my dress steamed, maybe for the bottom of my dress. The bodice is fully beaded but the bottom has a different material.

I wouldn’t expect it to be wrinkle free even when you pick it up. Did you already get it altered? Mine came back from alterations ready to be steamed lol. So I just planned to have it steamed before but yeah that will be tricky if businesses are still closed in mid-April. I’m more impressed that your going forward with April 16. Mine was April 11th but with all the uncertainty we postponed
