Stepfather of the bride by Mike Mclaughlin

Wicked Lizzie, on May 18, 2010 at 11:22 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

I remember when I met you; you looked like you could be mine

With your blue eyes and freckles; maybe it was a sign.

I fell in love with your mama and you came along for the ride.

Now you're getting married, I'm the stepfather of the bride.

VERSE 2

I couldn't replace your daddy, and I wouldn't want to try

The one who you relied on all the way to junior high

He was your mamma's man when he gave you life, he should be at your side

It isn't always easy for the stepfather of the bride

CHORUS:

I was there as you grew, but can't walk you down the aisle

After all we've been through, Can I dance with you for a while?

Tomorrow I'm gonna miss you; but today I'm filled with pride

Smiling ear to ear, I'm the stepfather of the bride

VERSE 3

There were many times we argued, not seeing eye to eye

I tried to raise you up right, sometimes I made you cry.

But you touched my heart so many times that now I must confide

I love you like a daughter; I'm the stepfather of the bride

It made me tear up a little too! But my stepdad won't have to feel left out. I'm having him and my dad walk me down the aisle. Best of both worlds Smiley smile

My stepfather raised me and when i was a teen i moved in with my real dad and didnt have a relationship with my stepdad for years. Him and my mom were divorced. Now I dont get along well with my real dad. But my step dad is a very big part of my life. I see and talk to him everyday. I moved to californa to move in with him and my brother after my divorce. Im not having him give me away because my real dads going to be there. My brothers giving me away but I will have two father daughter dances.

Yeah I haven't decided what to do about a dance yet. I guess that will be a last minute decision. Luckily my dad and I started to develop a relationship about 3 years ago or it would have just been my stepdad walk me down the aisle. I'm having my stepdad walk me down the first, meet my dad half way and then have my dad walk me to the altar. I think this will be good b/c then my real dad can feel like he's "giving me away" although I don't like to think about it like that. and my stepdad will get to be the one to wait w/me to walk (plus I think I'll be calmer w/my stepdad than my dad) so they both have very important duties. If either of them wouldn't have been comfortable w/this setup I would have asked my brother as well. It's good to have options of important men in your life!
