Still getting married on your date? Will you wear your wedding dress?

Chanel, on May 14, 2020 at 3:52 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 2 48
Hello brides!

My fiance and I received a call from our venue telling us that our July 4th wedding is going to be canceled. Of course I was upset and devastated however now we are looking to have a small ceremony in our backyard on July 4th and have our originally planned wedding at a later date. I want to wear my original wedding dress with all of the accessories selected but I am unsure. Are any of you brides moving forward with your original wedding date wearing your original wedding dress for both weddings? Both my mother and mother-in-law to be told me to just get a new one later kind of don't want to spend the extra money lol

I don’t know if I am still in the mood of having a wedding if I miss my date. I probably need years or cancel the whole thing 😔

July 18 wedding here. I plan to wear my original dress because we paid so much for the photographer and videographer. If we do a vow renewal and a celebration with more people next year, I could wear it again or a cheaper dress. I am going against the grain here but if we do a party next year it’s going to be cheaper and not the same as what we planned for this summer, so I’d like to wear my original dress for the small wedding.

Got married April 25th and totally wore my dress!! Best decision I made. I will not be getting another one for our later big wedding. I LOVE my dress, and I felt the prettiest I ever have in that thing. Some people asked me (before the wedding) if I was sure, because I planned on posting pictures and they wouldn't want future guests to see their dress before the day of, but for me, that wasn't a concern. The only one that matters is DH and he encouraged me to wear it for both. All of those people (after seeing the pictures) have expressed how excited they are to see it in person later. Do whatever makes you comfortable!

If we postpone the reception I'm definitely wearing my dress twice! If I wear it to the party without having worn it to the actual wedding, I think it'll feel like a costume, like I'm only dressing up as a bride.

I know how you feel. I have half finished wedding projects laying around I'm no longer motivated to finish. My fiance and I basically were done with all the planning saying that we got started early since our wedding was going to be on a holiday and wanted to ensure we can lock in vendor's for the holiday wedding date. But don't be discouraged and just cancel it all together I feel like you'll end up regretting it years later.

I’d love to wear mine, but I don’t know if I’ll have it by then! Our original date is July 11 so we’re probably going to do a small ceremony with our parents that day. I was supposed to have my first fitting for my dress this month, but since the shop has been closed since March I’m wondering if my dress even exists yet. I’ll probably wear a white sundress I was planning to wear to one of my showers and save my actual dress for our postponed celebrations, just a little something extra to add to the big day when it’s finally able to happen!

We just decided to postpone our July 3 wedding and I have the same question. We're still doing a small ceremony this year and will have our big reception on 7/3/21. I'm leaning towards getting a different style dress for the small ceremony this year because I picture myself wearing my original wedding dress at my big wedding with all the friends and family there dancing and having fun. I want to have that special moment of everyone seeing me walk down the aisle in my perfect dress and it won't be the same if most people already see it in photos from this year. I definitely see the appeal of wearing it twice though!

I got married March 28 in a small ceremony with just our families and I definitely wore my dress! There was no way I wasn't going to wear my dress, I love it so much! I picked it out to wear when we got married and even though it was different than we originally planned, I wanted it to feel as much like a wedding as it could. The only person I really cared about seeing me in the dress was my husband anyways and we got to have that special moment where he saw me in it for the first time. And one of the good things about having to postpone the reception is that I can wear my dress again, which most brides don't get to do. One of the first things I thought about when we were having to postpone but still planning to have a small ceremony was that I would get to wear my beautiful dress twice!

I totally agree with you!! And it occurred to me if anything went wrong with the new date then I might never get to wear it. And I'm not taking that chance!

I’m still going to wear mine, I think it will still be just as special when I wear it whenever we can have a huge vow renewal/reception!! Some brides don’t feel that way, it’s so different for everyone! You can probably get another dress on a secondhand site for much cheaper, or buy a white dress from a non-bridal shop for cheaper as well.

My FH and I have talked about eloping or doing a small ceremony, and he really wants me to wear my dress. I'm worried if I wear it now, he won't have that first look moment when we do have our wedding eventually, but I'm also worried if I don't wear it now I never will. If I felt 100% confident that we could have the wedding we wanted soon, I would just wear an elopement dress and save my wedding dress for the wedding celebration with our friends and family. We're in our mid-30s already and had to push our wedding until next spring, and if we want to have kids its going to need to be within the next couple of years. What if I'm pregnant or we end up having a kid before we ever have our big ceremony and then I don't fit into my dress anymore?

If we do something now, I'll probably wear "the" dress, and then perhaps get a reception dress for the wedding later (that way at least something is a surprise) or I'll at least accessorize and do my hair differently (different veil, different hairstyle, maybe even different makeup) so that each look is a bit unique. Also if you wear your dress now and later, you'll get to wear it twice, which is more than most brides! I think as long as you have something a little different about your look, both can feel special, and I bet guys don't notice those little details much anyway. He'll probably LOVE seeing you twice in your gown, even if your look is exactly the same!

DH and I had a small wedding right when everything from COVID-19 was hitting the fan! I actually ordered a less expensive but still very pretty dress for the small ceremony and I plan to wear my fabulous dress at our large ceremony on a later date.

I actually have 2 dresses already and I don't want to wear either of them if we have to elope. I'm currently looking for a fun dress with some sparkle if we have to cancel...or like a bomb white pantsuit!

We just eloped this week and I didn't wear my gown. My at the time FH said he didn't want to see me in the gown until our later ceremony with friends and family. Then my dad called me today flipping out asking if the gown he saw in pics was my main ceremony gown. He was so relieved when I told him it wasn't. But we knew by eloping we were doing a TTD and I really didn't want to do that in my main dress anyways lol! Its all personal choice, but we wanted to save the big reveal
