Still Need Help with Invitations!

Jenna, on April 5, 2021 at 11:22 AM Posted in Planning 0 3

Would shimmer paper be appropriate for invitations for a black tie wedding? Based on my last post, I was between doubling my budget for cotton paper or sticking with the matte. However, the boutique I am using also offers shimmer paper to be used instead of the matte for no extra cost. Should I still double my budget for cotton, or is shimmer also classified as high quality paper for black tie?

Have you seen the shimmer in person? Sometimes shimmer paper can look , I don’t want to say cheap, because it doesn’t, but not as formal as the cotton. If I were you only because it’s a black tie event, I would just go with the cotton to be on the safe side. For me personally when I think about a black-tie event, I feel like the invitations are everyone’s first impression of the event. It will speak volumes to your guests or at least it would to me if I was a guest and I got invited to a black tie wedding. With black tie it’s got to be the whole 9 yards sort of deal IMO

    I agree with DJ.

I have seen shimmer paper before, and I usually associate it with cost-trimming DIY invitations. There is nothing wrong with that IF that is what you are doing.

I would normally not encourage bumping up the paper budget just for invitations, but a black-tie event is a little different. I would splurge for the cotton.

Hi Jenna! What does your invitation design look like? Shimmer paper can look luxe if it's in a metallic color or a dark neutral color like navy - but on some colors it can look less formal than a matte finish.

I do think it would be nice to have your invitations printed on a thicker cardstock or higher paper quality if they're for a black tie event (but it's definitely not necessary)! 💌
