Stopping Birth Control

Gracey, on January 6, 2022 at 12:30 PM Posted in Married Life 1 21
This is kinda a weird question but I just wanna hear your opinions!
When did you stop or when are you gonna stop taking your birth control?

When we decided we were ready to start trying for a baby given our professional and personal stuff. For us, this was after 2 years of marriage.

I stopped taking it about a month before I had my tubal ligation.

I stopped in December 2020. We were not actively TTC but not preventing for most of 2020 and then actively started at the beginning of 2021. No luck yet.

Probably a month before our honeymoon. I will have been on bc consistently for almost 4 years at that point and know my body will take time to adjust back to my natural cycle. But, we're ready to have kids pretty much as soon as I'm through all the events I definitely want to be able to drink at (wedding and honeymoon)

Depends on your history with it and wants for the future. Typically I've seen it said that 1-3 months before TTC is ideal. But I have been taking it since I was 14 (so over 10 years) and was told that my weight/acne/period could really fluctuate for a while until my body gets used to not having those hormones anymore since I started so young and have been on it for so long. I stopped about 9mo prior to wedding so that I could get any weight/acne under control and have a predictable period. That was probably too soon! I ended up being 100% typical cycle and no body changes within 4 months of stopping, hoping for no issues TTC when we start next month!

I plan to quit when I hit menopause (jk). I concur with the previous posts. If you are trying to conceive, you'd want to give it a few months before actively trying. If you're simply trying to wean off the hormones and readjust, also a few months before any major events or milestones to allow time for your body to work out the kinks.

I stopped taking birth control a year before our wedding our wedding is 2/22/22, and we’ve been using other forms of protection.

I plan to stop right after the honeymoon. We are going to Hawaii and I don’t want to deal with Aunt Flo on the beach. But we plan to do the whole not actively trying/not trying to prevent right away and see what happens. Since I’ll be 33 when we get married I didn’t want to wait too long.

I just had this conversation with my OB as I'm on the shot and they typically don't like to keep people on it for too long, I LOVE having the shot as it's stopped my periods and I don't want to have to deal with mine on my wedding day or honeymoon.

When we get married I'll be 27 and I'd like to have a baby/be pregnant by the time I'm 30, so I'll probably come off of it, I'll probably take my last shot 9 months after the wedding since it takes 3 months to clear your system, so we will have a year of marriage to enjoy together then we can start trying.

I stopped birth control in April, and started prenatals. Got married in June and started trying right away and conceived in august. Now 24 weeks💙 we’ve been together 8 years and didn’t want to wait any longer.

This depends on when you want to begin TTC, how long you have been on birth control, and what type of birth control. I recommend talking to your OBGYN to determine what is the best strategy for you. As soon as you decide you want to start TTC you should begin taking prenatals (your OBGYN will probably tell you to start at least a month before TTC) and Vitamin D (if your levels are low).

If your doctor isn't engaging in straightforward conversations with you regarding your medical questions, it may be a good idea to get a 2nd opinion if possible.

We aren't quite near wanting to conceive yet (we are probably 2-3 years away from that) but in briefly discussing it with my regular doctor he advised to stop taking the pill 6 months before TTC to have a 'wash out' phase to allow my period to regulate, and around that same time to come in for a pre-conception consultation to discuss in more details what I should be doing/taking.

If your OB isn't giving you clear advice and answering simple questions, it may be time to change to another OB - this is something way too important to get poor or half effort advice on.

It normally takes 2-3 months to get out of your system. We are getting married in august so I am planning to stop in June. We don't care when just as long as it's not before my wedding.

I went off bc 2 years before the wedding and we used condoms until the wedding. We got pregnant on our honeymoon 😊 I’m 35 and he is 34 and we are so ready to be parents!

I definitely HATE using condoms. We haven't used them since maybe week 2 of dating 4 1/2 years ago lol. Maybe we'll just do the "pull out" method Smiley tongue
