Strangers hijacked my room block!

AC, on May 16, 2016 at 6:31 PM Posted in Planning 1 35

My friend couldn't book a room because the hotel said my block was booked up. So the hotel sent me a list and there are a bunch of strangers names on the list! WTF! I guess they must have gotten my code from my wedding site.

I had a few do this. I called the hotel and they contacted the guests to let them know that the hotel block was saved for guests of the X wedding.

The fuck? I would demand that the hotel figure it out. They're not your guests.

Did you tell the hotel none of these people are part of the wedding? They should be able to fix this for you.

Unfortunately, people sometimes farm room block codes from wedding websites to get discounted room rates.

I agree on going back to the hotel and telling them these are NOT your guests. This defeats the whole purpose of getting a room block and IMHO the hotel needs to fix it.

Dang. Do you have a website from the knot? We've heard about this happening before. The hotel should be able to work with you!

I may just check my hotel now. Don't need any surprises.

There was another wedding block at our hotel the same weekend as ours, and some of their guests ended up on our reservation, and vice versa. Is that a possibility?

Although I wouldn't be surprised that there are people out there ridiculous enough to try to game their way into blocks for cheaper rates.

I checked mine every month, because we married in a resort town and there were uninvited relatives I could just see my grandmother say to "Sure, you can come anyway!"

I offered to supply to the hotel a list of last names, of guests invited to our wedding.

I am on the phone with the hotel right now. Unfortunately all of the sales department went home for the evening. I think they must have gotten it from the website, or possibly just when they called they said yes to the options of blocks listed to them.. Ughh!!!

That is crazy!! I also have a block of rooms, now I know not to put that on my wedding website. I agree that you should talk to the hotel and maybe ask about changing the code and not posting it but calling those guests with the new password

Contact the hotel! That's beyond me why someone would do that.

Yeah - tomorrow is the last day to book through our block anyway, but my friends from out of state and my mom just tried to book rooms today and couldn't! So lesson learned! Forewarning to anyone who puts their code out there - use a password! It didn't even cross my mind!

Funny thing - I just looked up the people on facebook and they don't seem like scammers..maybe it's an honest mistake.

I can't even believe people would just attach themselves to a room block to save money. I would never even think to do that!
