Strapless dress sliding down... bustier?

Gen, on February 21, 2019 at 9:53 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12
Dammit 😠. My dress fit perfectly when I got it and it’s not like my weight has changed significantly, but I must’ve lost a pound or two and now it’s a questionable fit... when I breathe deeply, it actually feels on the tighter side, but if I completely relax it starts to slide down. I feel like getting it taken in wouldn’t even be a good idea because it’s just like BARELY too big. It also stays up a bit better when I have a bra.

Though since I have a very small ribcage and bust size (I’m a 32B) I was thinking about getting a bustier to help the dress fit a little snugger and give me an extra layer. Does anyone have any experience with these?

Maybe have the seamstress add cups to your dress? This may give you the extra fill you need up top to keep everything in place. My dress is strapless, and I don't plan to wear any sort of bra / shape wear (dress has a built in corset...winning, lol). However, I don't quite "fill" the top...so I plan to ask the seamstress to simply add cups to give me that extra something needed.

I would definitely try the bustier. I have the same problem so I'm just going to try gaining 5 pounds and I think it will fit better.

I was thinking about that but I’m worried it may still slide down my ribcage even if I have cups added in, right?

Haha, not a bad idea, my FH was saying I should try to do that, have you ever seen how I met your mother? There’s like a whole thing where Lily is too skinny for her dress and trying desperately to gain weight so it’ll fit, it just reminded me of that 😂 I have a hyperthyroid though so in the past when I’ve tried to gain weight it’s never done much. Super annoying (though I’ll try not to complain because I know many wish they had this problem haha)

I'm not sure. I feel like the cups would make the top tighter so the tightness would prevent the sliding. But I could be wrong.

That’s true, I’ll see what the seamstress thinks. Thanks!

I really haven't had a problem with it until recently. I need to go to the dr to get my thyroid checked. I would just stuff the whole torso of my dress lol but under the arm it has mesh V panels so I can't wear anything to help. Anddd I absolutely don't want to get it altered.

Hey Allie did you end up figuring this out? I’m having the same exact problem! My wedding is in a week and I don’t feel like my dress will stay up. No time to get it altered AGAIN

Well I actually ended up gaining weight and my dress fit a week before my wedding, then I apparently lost weight again in the week before my wedding and my dress was too big and falling down my entire wedding day! So you definitely want to find a solution! I'd suggest trying to get a corset, and if you can get one built in to your dress, that's even better.

I ended up sewing in my own cups so the bust would be tighter.
