Stuck!

Shannon, on March 11, 2021 at 6:08 PM Posted in Registry 0 10

I have no idea what to do with my registry! I am so stuck, part of me feels selfish for creating a registry during a pandemic, but the other part knows that its traditionally the thing to do when you’re getting married and we are in need of so many things at the start of our new life together. Thoughts?

Bear in mind that if you don't register, you will get gifts you don't want and can't return. Do not bank on the idea of guests gifting you cash by default.

Guests do want to share in your happiness and buying from a registry is how they show that

Make sure your registry has a variety of price ranges to ensure that guests can still purchase something within their price range. A registry isn't a demand for gifts. It is a list that is helpful for your loved ones in purchasing a gift that they know you will enjoy. Maybe thinking about it that way will make it easier for you?

People are going to give you gifts anyway, you may as well give them ideas of what you want/need instead of making them struggle to find something you may not even use.

I would do a registry and select gifts that you would like to have. If you have a registry, it would be easy for your guests to purchase that like and want. When I did my registry, I set a limit of $50 or less bc I did not know their financial situation and the Covid.

Do the registry- we’re doing the opposite. We own our home & everything in it so we don’t want or need more things. We’re only having a honeymoon fund. I don’t feel one ounce of guilt for this!

I would make it and register for everything you want and need. It doesn't suggest that people have to buy you a gift or that they have you buy you THOSE gifts specifically (although most people do). But it's nice to have an idea of what to get the bride and groom. PLUS most stores will give you a registry completion discount which often is the only coupon you can use on some brands. So anything that's leftover you will be able to purchase yourself with a discount! Worth it just for that even if you don't get anything else from the list Smiley smile

Don't feel guilty! I guess it depends on your guests situations, but none of my family and guests were financially affected by the pandemic (from what I can tell). I only put gifts I know we would definitely use on the registry. My mom had just sent out my bridal shower invitations earlier this week, and I just checked my registry on the knot and 1/3 of gifts were already purchased! I think people are so ready and excited to do normal things like celebrate showers and weddings again!

Make the registry! I'm sure if people haven't started asking for it yet, they will. People started asking me for one before I had ours made and we have 3. We used Amazon, which I found was great when trying to select gifts because it tells you approximately how many gifts you should register for in each price range as a guide. The nice thing about registries is people can use it, but they don't have to and it doesn't cost you a thing! So it's definitely not wrong to make one...we have 3! I did Amazon, Macy's and then I created a honeymoon fund through Disney's website because we are honeymooning in Disney.
