Stupid question... Wine only reception?

Lily, on June 14, 2016 at 2:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 30

Hi ladies! First want to thank WW for all your advice so far!!!

We initially started planning for a dry wedding just because my FH hates alcohol. But after reading threads we decided to provide beverage. Of course...

We are thinking a wine only option from the caterer. The full bar is ridiculously expensive. Is wine only appropriate for wedding reception?

Thanks so much!

I would do wine and beer---beer will be cheaper than wine and overall you'll probably have more beer drinkers.

Definitely do wine and beer. You don't have to have a full bar with liquor.

If you do wine and beer (which is also fairly inexpensive than liquor) you'll be just fine.

I would definitely include beer with that since not everyone likes wine.

Seems we have to talk to cater as they only offer "Wine Only" or "Full Bar". Our venue does now allow for liquor.

I've never seen a caterer not include beer in alcoholic beverage packages. Do you have to use the caterer's beverage services? You could look into hiring a separate bartending service.

@MrsMcDougall Yeah I found that very weird. Our venue has a short list of preferred caterers that we have to use. This is a cater with great reputation that's why we are very fond of them. Will definitely check with them!

If you don't have many beer drinkers, I think wine only would be just fine.

I'm having wine only by choice. Most of my guests don't drink and the ones that drink prefer wine. I only know one person on my list that would choose beer over wine. I think you are fine with just wine. Who doesn't like wine.

I'd say try wine + beer since beer is cheaper but if it cannot be done, then just wine is fine.

Wine and beer definitely. I'm leaving hard liquor out of my wedding not for cost reasons, but because we don't want anyone getting obliterated! :-p

Either way, I think there would be more beer than wine drinkers.

You said they don't allow liquor? If that's the case, then maybe "full bar" means "wine and beer?"

Beer is not considered "liquor" so I would double check what they mean. I'm personally happy with wine, but occasionally I like to mix it up, it can put me right to sleep. I would really try to offer both.

Happy you decided to provide alcohol! Bravo!

I'm having wine only, but our venue is a winery who's license to serve does not include beer. My situation probably isn't very common though.

No need for a full bar, but I would at least provide beer with the wine. Smiley smile

Wine and beer most definitely. No need to do a full bar.

Beer and wine. There are strange people out there that don't actually care for wine (aka my brother). Between those two options all your guests should be able to find something they like.

That's weird. Has the caterer ever catered before?

Can you add in a keg of beer? We were at a winery and order a lot of wine and a full keg. It cost us around $200 and was plenty of beer.
