Submerged Orchids in Cylinder Vases

Sydney, on May 11, 2021 at 2:00 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 3

Hi everyone!

I am planning on having our centerpieces be cylinder vases filled with water with a dendrobium orchid inside and a floating candle on top. I did not even think about how the flower will float until talking with a florist. She said that pebbles to anchor it is her suggestion. I've seen people using fishing sinkers and wiring. I was hoping this would be a fairly stress free option for our centerpieces but am worried that it is going to be a fairly time consuming process. Has anybody done these centerpieces DIY before? Do you think I would be able to get away with just putting them in the vases?

Your florist said they wouldn’t be responsible for that part?

Technically we talked with a florist consultant since we are going to DIY this part. The price my actual florist was charging was incredibly high so we wanted to save some money by DIYing.

I would just try testing it out to see if having them not anchored would work and/or how much work it would be to anchor them all. I think the bigger pain would be filling them. I think you'd want to fill them at the tables, which could be a lot of trips to the nearest water supply to fill up water pitchers. I'd think filling them at the sink and putting on a cart to roll over to tables would get messy if the vases were full. Oh, actually, you could fill up all the water pitchers on the cart and then roll that over to the tables to fill the vases.
