Submerged Rose Centerpiece DIY Success! Yessss!

Michy, on June 14, 2015 at 3:33 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 28

I thought I would post this for anyone else thinking of doing submerged centerpieces. I tried a lot of ideas but this one worked. Smiley smile

I bought 5oz fishing weights - like these: http://www.amazon.ca/Bullet-Weights-Bank-Sinkers-3Oz-Card/dp/B000676X6W/ref=sr_1_55?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1434310020&sr=1-55&keywords=fishing weight

Tied them to the rose stem with clear fishing line, dropped in, then dropped in rocks to cover the weight with.

You can see my fishing line in this photo cuz I just wanted to see if it worked, wasn't really going for looks. Smiley smile Also I will be adding a floating candle on the top like my inspiration image...

I will be setting up all the centerpieces the night before the wedding, tying on the weights and putting in vases. Although will only fill about 1/3 with water for easy transport to the venue.

For any Canadian brides, the cheapest place to buy these weights is Wholesale Sports or Army&Navy! ;

    Awesome @Michy! How did you get the rose to stay submerged?

    Thanks everyone!

    @Kit, I tied the fishing weight to the rose using clear fishing line. The weight sunk it right down and keeps it there. I used 5oz weight, but a little lighter would probably work too. I just hid the weight with the black rocks.

    Ahhh...I'm glad you worked it out, Michy! Your wedding is literally right around the corner (enjoy this exciting time of anticipation -- you'll never forget it). I'm a sucker for roses at weddings (I used to be totally partial to red, but there are so many incredible shades and hues available now that I love whatever color matches the decor). That is exactly what a submerged rose centerpiece is supposed to look like, so give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done. One question? Silk or real? If it's silk, watch the water and make sure the color from the rose doesn't bleed into the water.

    Otherwise, you're good to go.

    ETA: Avoid any temptation to scatter rose petals around your centerpieces. You've gone for a very clean, very defined centerpiece. It needs nothing else. Nothing.
