Succulent bouquet advice.

SoonToBeMrsS., on January 26, 2017 at 4:58 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 11

I love the look of,using succulents. I would like to,make them myself so I can customize each bridesmaids a little bit. How far in advance should I make them, or how, long will they keep? Will they die if I have to ship them somewhere and they won't have any water for a while?

Why do you say that @ Cecilia? ETA: even if I don't make them myself, my questions are still the same? How long do they last without water and having to ship them? I've seen beautiful ones on etsy but idk how close to the wedding to order them.

Ones you order on etsy are most likely not real, and making bouquets yourself is a major time suck and alot of stress to put on yourself in the few days leading up to your wedding.

Say if you do them a few days before yourself and they are dead when you wake up the morning of? You wasted all that money time and effort and have nothing to show for it.

A professional can make each bouquet unique if thats what you want and they will also be responsible for transportation so all of that stress is off you.

Succulents out of the ground are okay for about a week. Then they start to wrinkle up. I'm using succulents for my bouquet and from what I have read they are hard to work with. You'll need to tie some wire around the base and pull it through the rest of the bouquet. I think shipping would be difficult. The little "leaves" if bumped will break right off.

I guess I'll have to research some more. I was under the impression succulents don't require as much water as roses etc. They adapt, to a drier climate. The ones on etsy are real.

I am DIYing my centerpieces and most likely bouquets with succulents, baby's breath and some greenery. I absolutely love the look of succulents and the different textures and colors they bring to a bouquet. All I did was watch 2-3 youtube videos and I wired my own succulents last Friday to practice for my bridemaids bouquets. It was easy and they stay really well. You simply need green floral tape and a thicker floral wire to support the succulent. Watch a youtube video on how to secure it...there are a few different techniques.

I attached a photo below of my first run at my DIY bouquet. I only bought 2 succulents for practice and 1 bunch of baby's breath. So I know I need about 3-4 more succulents per bouquet and to lower the fillers a little and add more so its fuller. But it was only my first try Smiley smile

I also ordered succulent cutting from Etsy which are not potted already cut. They last about a week without water and before they start to look sad.

    Hope this helps!

So, I've actually been researching this stuff quite a bit. Mostly for centerpieces though. I'm having a pro take care of my bouquet and some bouts because I have no desire to mess with them.

But, that being said, this website has pre-wired succulents

    http://www.succulentlyurban.com/product-category/succulent-wedding/diy-succulent-bouquet/.

If you want the bouquet to be 100% succulents, I'd order the 60 wired succulents package (and yes, that's actually a great price. Succulents, especially the bigger ones, are expensive AF)...if you're just looking to have a few included here and there...I'd go to the grocery store, get a pre-made bouquet, and then order a couple of the pre-made wired succulents and insert them in.

Because trust me, you're definitely not going to have time to mess around with flowers the night before your wedding.

Succulents are very heavy, just so you know. I would not recommend making your own bouquet that includes succulents. My florist had to use floral glue for them to stay in place on top of the flowers. The set up was very complicated (I know because I undid it to plant the succulents).

They are easier to maintain, but they still need to be tended and not sit in storage for a few days. You talk about shipping: are you traveling for your wedding? If you are, I would suggest finding a florist local to the venue.

Thank you all so much! I appreciate it. I am traveling for my wedding so I was debating on 1) making mine before I left and overnighting them to the hotel or 2) buying pre made ones and having them shipped to the hotel. I'll be arriving 3 days before a my wedding and I definitely want to have them already taken care of before I get there. You have been helpful in my decision making Smiley smile

F**king wedding wire keeps deleting my response. So short answer is they will ship well. They will keep without water for weeks. I'm growing 500+ for my wedding. Do it. They're super easy to care for. Google succulent propagation and arrangement making to see how hardy they are. Smiley smile
