Sudden anxiety about guest list

Samantha, on December 30, 2020 at 10:28 PM Posted in Planning 0 18
I am way overthinking this, it’s my anxiety talking...I just had this panicky thought...what if no one wants to come? What if our venue looks ridiculous and half empty!

I know it’s just planning nerves. My bff said she’d eat all the food and drink the champagne so it won’t go to waste LOL
This brought to you by late night after a too long nap!

I've been having the same thoughts! Today while finalizing the guest list, I was fluctuating between, "What if not even a quarter of these people show up and it's just awkward," and "OMG what if they all show up," lol but I guess in the end what really matters is just getting married. At least that's what I had to tell myself! Good luck with the rest of your planning!

I just color coded the spreadsheet by his side, my side, out if town and local LOL
I can last minute add 32 people - my brother had six kids, they are married and all have kids, he has 32 descendants. We didn’t add them to the list because the last time I saw them they were small children...and 32 at $100 a head is a lot LOL

Omg, make it a party of 3! I literally JUST had this same thought tonight! We are having a destination wedding, and now that so many people have been out of work and struggling financially, I’m afraid no one’s going to be able to afford to go.

Can I be honest? I think brides put emphasis on the perfection of their day being determined by the guest list and I promise you it is not. I got married with three people as guests and two for our dinner reception (yes by choice) but my day felt special especially because I was marrying the love of my life and had great people there to celebrate. Even if I had more people and some did not show oh well. In life you learn who will be there for you no matter what. Your day is going to be amazing regardless but I am sure you will have plenty of guests. Smiley smile Drink some wine it helps when stressed. Smiley winking

I had to do the same thing lol, having a big family can add up quick! It's hard too like you said when you haven't seen them for a while but were close at one time, I find that's my biggest issue. Thank goodness for color-coding!

I asked my brother if he would be offended and he said HE can’t afford to feed them all at once so wouldn’t expect me too!

Totally agree. And normally I wouldn’t care... but our venue has a minimum headcount! 😱

Welcome to wedding planning!! 😂 Totally had those thoughts, nightmares- the entire panic bridal package!! My aunt said when she married, happened to her too. You are keeping a good sense of humor- which is excellent 👍

They all told me it would work out and by golly it turned out better then I ever imagined ❤️
When things feel like too much, laughter and a good ole walk away from it and do something totally normal (I did laundry, watched a non-wedding show, etc.) helped me center myself. 💆🏼‍♀️

I get that same feeling bc were specifically having a micro wedding!! But you know what, as long as your day Is everything YOU want it to be, you won’t even care about if it looks empty. The ones you know won’t let you down are all your souls worry about making sure is there too witness the next day ever 😍 at least that’s what I tell myself and it helps lol

the venue I’m looking at doesn’t do reception so that part definitely works in my favor too lol. Are you having a local or destination wedding?

Unfortunately, it's common for brides to put way too much importance on the guest list. I've seen the most beautiful and fun wedding with only a dozen people.

I said the same thing to my bff - that i would just eat the extra cake if that happens [she had the same thought for her wedding as you did]

This is definitely something I've stressed about. Even so far as trying to estimate the likelihood of each guest attending which is obviously not productive. Like many things during wedding planning, we'll have to learn to let go of things outside of our control!
