Sudden Financial Stress - Help!

Bethany, on November 15, 2020 at 7:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 11
So it is officially 90 days until our wedding and my car’s engine seized up, we are now looking at a $4500 repair for a new engine and installation.
We still need to pay for the photographer, food and dj as well as decide on a cake/flowers/centerpieces (COVID has put a big damper on plans because some of our vendors were closed, some still are or are working less hours).
I also need to get my wedding dress alterations done in the next 2 weeks.I’m stressing because I really don’t know how to recover from a big money hit like this as that money was for the wedding. Please pray for us during this time, and if anyone has any suggestions on things we can do to maybe make it a little less stressful financially please let me know! Thank you in advance ♥️

I would suggest cutting back as much as possible.

If you haven't signed with a vendor for photography, cake, DJ, etc. Or the deposits were not much then consider getting more affordable vendors. Also consider having the food cooked by loved ones if possible and getting a cake from the grocery store.

I'll definitely be praying for you.

Sending you prayers and hugs! Heard price chopper and Costco have affordable flowers! Also saw some neat DIY centerpieces on youtube (some have ideas with items from dollar store).

Also I think you can ask the vendors you have if you can go on some kind of payment plan? I would like to think they’d be able to work with you somehow

They all said they can offer payment plans as long as it’s paid off ___ days before the wedding so that will help a little it’s just coming up with the money as a whole that’s making me nervous especially with holidays coming around and such

For extra cash, one of our friends donated plasma. It’s like $500 a month or something. Not ideal but it might be worth looking into. Maybe sell some things of Facebook market place or offer up? Good luck!

A wedding is not worth going in debt over! Definitely try the above suggestions; I know people who instead of spending $1,000 on the cake - went to Sam’s club and spent $100 or something. Is a DJ necessary? I’m assuming the wedding is small as we are approaching a second lockdown.

Oh no! Your wedding is the day before mine and I was hit with the same thing!! My transmission had to be replaced, over 4k!!

Just breathe, and try all the payment plans and modifications everyone else suggested. I know how hard it is to overcome these unexpected and huge hits, but you will overcome it!! At the end of the day, what the cake looked like and what the dj was playing won't be the highlights. You've got this. One step at a time, make a plan and stick to it.
Hugs and all the good vibes, hun!!

Is the engine repair more than the blue book value of the car? It may not be worth it to replace the engine but rather to purchase a different car.

As far as the wedding goes, the good thing is that cake, flowers, and centerpieces are all things you can find for cheap or DIY. Grocery store cake and flowers, arrange the flowers yourself. Non-floral centerpieces can be DIY'd inexpensively. If you need a more significant amount of money, see if you can switch to a cheaper photography package.
