Suggestions for a trivia loving couple on our wedding day

Anonymous, on July 25, 2011 at 11:51 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 14

My fiance and I are really into playing trivia and we try to go every week with our friends. I feel like its something personal that we do as a couple. That's why we both really wanted to incorporate trivia into our wedding somehow.

I've come up with a few ideas on my own but aren't really thrilled with any that I've thought of. I asked my MOH and she didn't seem too thrilled with the idea of putting trivia into our wedding. She thought it might detract from our wedding day.

Anyone have any suggestions? Or opinions? I'd love to hear all ideas!

I think it would fun, but I like trivia and playing all sorts of games Smiley winking

Of course the obvious would be questions about you guys: when/where you met, how long you dated before getting married, etc. But you could also do some wedding trivia. Like how wedding cakes originated; what the garter toss and bouquet actually mean/represent; where the 'something old something new......' originated; etc. Then, if you're doing any kind of theme you could have some trivia about that as well.

    Good luck Smiley smile

Have a list of trivia questions at the tables about the two of you... and if they stand up and get the answer right then you need to kiss. You get to limit the amounts of times they can interrupt you while you eat with the # of questions.

We are doing a trivia to release tables to the buffet line. Whichever table answers correctly first gets to go get food.

I've also heard of people having trivia questions at the tables about others at the table. Of course you would have to have a seating chart for this and would probably be pretty time consuming. But it would be a way to break the ice at tables if they didn't all know each other.

It depends how far you want to take it.

What about having your seating chart be a trivia question and the table name be the answer? They have to match it up to find their seats.

You could do trivia based centerpieces- like trivial pursuit cards and stuff. It would be a good ice breaker to get people talking.

Another good option would be to have your DJ do live trivia do the cocktail hour for cheesy stuff...

Then again, I used to host a trivia night- so I love it as well!

We're doing something very similar. Each persons' name card will have a trivia question on the back with the answer inside. We figured it'd just be something fun for everyone to do at the table during dinner.

Yea, I dont think i want to go too crazy with the trivia. I still want it to be at least a little classy. Lol. I think the center piece idea is a little too much for my fiance.

I thought about potentially doing an hour or so of trivia for our rehearsal dinner, since it's our closest friends who enjoy it the most anyway. I can't really see my grandfather being interested in trivia, lol. But, you never know. And doing trivia during our cocktail hour wouldn't work since we'll probably be outside taking pictures. I wouldn't want to miss trivia hour if we had it, lol.

I do like the idea of the place cards with trivia on them.

Thanks a ton for all the ideas!

I went to a wedding where there was an hour for picture taking. One of the things they did was to do a crossword puzzle full of trivia about the couple. Gave us something to do while we were waiting.

Here is a website that will generate a crossword puzzle you can print out.

Instead of place cards you can have their name with a trivia question on it!

I went to a wedding that used the trivia of the couple to release the tables for the buffet. I loved that, so much fun! I totally want to do that.

The crossword puzzle idea is really nifty but not really something that interests us. Maybe something fun to do for a shower or something... I'll definitely let my MOH know. Smiley smile

We're having a sit down dinner so, the DJ releasing tables won't work for us. Again, another cute idea though!

We're doing these for programs at our ceremony -- figured it would be a fun way for people to pass the time between when they take their seats and when everything starts.

We'll probably do the Mad Libs suggestion and come up with a little story about the two of us, but you could EASILY do some trivia and/or crossword type stuff instead!

For part of our centerpieces we have mini movie posters because my FH LOVES film. Each table is a different movie and there will even be a few set up elsewhere (cake, guestbook, buffet tables...) as decorations. I have delegated the trivia to my FH if he wants to do it b/c movies is his thing. We were thinking of leaving trivia questions about the movies on the tables and the answers will be on the back of the corresponding poster (not necessarily at the same table) to get people talking.

Kara: This is 100% what I had envisioned when I thought about doing some kind of trivia for our wedding. Ceremony cards are perfect. Not too in your face but still part of the big day.

When I told my MOH about the idea, she thought it wouldn't be appropriate. She was nervous that a lot of people would be more focused on figuring out the answers than paying attention to our wedding ceremony.

But, our ceremony isn't going to be religious so I thought that it wouldn't be long enough for people stop paying attention. And the last couple of weddings we've gone to, we've sat and waited for the ceremony to start and felt kinda bored waiting for everything to begin.

But now I have second thoughts...
