Sunday Catholic Wedding Maryland

Deanna, on April 24, 2018 at 9:30 AM Posted in Maryland Planning 0 10

Hi everyone,

Hoping for some help. Planning on having our wedding over labor day weekend of next year, Sept. 1st, 2019. Does anyone know of a church that performs Sunday weddings between Baltimore and DC? (Our reception is in Annapolis).

The first step would be to contact the dioceses in those areas and see if the diocese even allows weddings on Sundays. If they do, they might be able to point you to a specific parish and/or priest. Priests are limited in how many masses they can say per day and many will max out on Sunday morning.

You will struggle with this. The only time I've ever seen a church permit a Sunday wedding was when the bride was an active participant in the parish (along with the entire family) and had a very close relationship with the Pastor. There were time and date constraints because the groom and his family were coming in from another country, so they made an exception.

I would highly doubt you will be able to 'shop' for a church willing to do a Sunday wedding.

My cousins who are catholic ended up having to use a Greek Orthodox Church because they couldn’t find a Catholic Church that would do weddings in Sunday’s.

Isn't it incredibly unusual for the Catholic Church to turn approve a wedding date that's only 5 months away, no pre-cana, one is not a parish member?

    Dear Jeleebeenz,

I am getting married in 2019 and hoping to complete pre-cana within the church I plan to get married in. I hope this clarifies your questions.

This is something to call the diocese about but you might not have any luck with getting the Catholic Church to do a Sunday wedding.

Im getting married in a Catholic Church that’s part of the Arlington Diocese and we were told no weddings on Sundays. I wouldn’t plan any of your wedding until you have the ceremony space and date confirmed

Our local dioceses does not allow this. I had a friend plan her wedding and book all vendors for a Sunday before being told the priest couldn’t perform the marriage on that day.

You may want to talk to the priest of your local parish and see what they recommend. Unfortunately, if you want a Catholic wedding, you will likely be stuck with a Saturday, mid day time frame, as Catholic priests are not allowed to perform marriages anywhere but in a church. Sorry!
