Sunday Luncheon - No "cocktail" hour?

Ellie, on November 13, 2024 at 9:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 3
We are planning a cozy winter wedding with luncheon on a Sunday. Ceremony to begin at noon. We planned to have luncheon shortly afterwards, not thinking a traditional cocktail hour was necessary. Guests will be in their Sunday best, but we are going for an intimate, more relaxed atmosphere (deep in the woods in a lodge). Most people are traveling about an hour.

Has anyone done a Sunday luncheon without factoring in a "cocktail" hour? Did you go straight to luncheon, or what did you do in lieu of a cocktail hour? We plan to do photos first to save time, although it would have been ideal to do afterwards, we didn't think a luncheon timeline would afford it.

The main reason cocktail hour exists is so that couples can have time to do photos. If you are doing them ahead of time, there’s no need to do a cocktail hour, and you can go straight to the luncheon.

If you need some time to transition from the ceremony to the luncheon as the wedded couple, you may want to have something to occupy people's time. It may seem awkward for people to start any lunch activity before you and your partner arrive. It might help to have finger foods if there will be any delay that could be anticipated.

If you aren’t doing photos after your ceremony, there is no need to host a cocktail hour. I would just go straight into the luncheon.
