Sunday wedding timeline

Lauren, on December 20, 2020 at 9:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 3

Me and my FH are having a Sunday wedding, there will be out of town guests (family that will be coming over 24 hours before the wedding) and we want to make sure that we have enough time to get ready, and also end the reception early enough for guests to arrive back home for work etc. the next day. We are planning on getting married around 1:30-2:00 pm and will possibly serve brunch foods at the reception? We want to make sure people have enough time to relax and have fun at the wedding but also enough time to head home as well. I know many people leave Sunday weddings early anyways so we though ending around 5 or 6? Will this be enough time for people to feel like they have actually been at a wedding and to drive 2 or 3 hours back home? ( we are in college and getting married at the halfway point of our hometown/where we both live). We have access to the venue through 8 am to midnight and the ceremony and reception are held in the same place!

Hmmmm best to consult your photographers and even hair and make up if you are doing it for the timeline. Do you want first looks? How many people in your bridal party? All those things will need to be factored in. When are you allowed to get to the venue? Can you get ready there?

The majority of the weddings I've been to have been a half hour ceremony (including the processional/recessional), 1 hour cocktail hour, and 4 hour reception. I would maybe do a 12:30pm ceremony, 1-2 cocktail hour, and 2-6 reception. You can cut out the cocktail hour, but honestly, even with getting a lot of photos and first look done before the ceremony, we still had a lot of photos to finish during cocktail hour.

If you are having the ceremony at 1:30 then I would guess it would be done by 2:00, then cocktail hour from 2:00-3:00 then your grand entrance and your meal served at about 3:15. I think it would be odd to serve brunch food at that time of day.
