Superficial family members?

Jouselle, on July 28, 2010 at 3:43 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 5

Just went to cousin's wedding last Saturday. Was lovely, etc. Brought my fiance, of course. My other, single, cousin brought some handsome guy with a big smile whom no one had met before. HE, this practically a stranger, was all my aunts talked about. How he was such a charming, nice guy and all. About my shy soon-to-be husband? Not a peep. They made no effort to say hello or anything. I know my sweetie is not an Abercrombie model nor is he charismatic, but my sweetie has been with me for 4 years, engaged for 1, with me through thick and thin! Towards the end of the wedding, one of the aunts commented on how antisocial he was. That's it. THEN on Facebook the day after is a picture of my single cousin and her handsome date. The caption my other aunt posted was "Could they be next?" REALLY? We have a friggin' date and venue set!!! They be next MY BUTT!

Oh wow! I commiserate. I do dislike how superficial people can be and it's especially frustrating when it's your family and you have to socialize with them at times! ;p

Aww I know how you feel. My grandma always brag how gorgeous and smart my brother is. She would just talk about my personal difficulties, thanks grams...

Don't take it to hear- you cannot control what others think or how they act. You know you are the lucky one!

Well, your FH is so great and everyone knows it!! Don't take it personal, maybe they are just jealous that you have such an amazing person next to you.

    .

My advice.. don't invite them to your wedding.. haha jk

Gah, I'm just not going to go on Facebook. My poor fiance got so worried about me getting worked up about this, he said I should remove them from the guest list if they were going to act like this. But I have other family members who are very nice and it would break their hearts to see me exclude certain people. Fortunately I have over a year to see what happens. Thanks for replying to this you guys. It really made me feel better.
