Superstitions?

Future Mrs. S, on April 27, 2011 at 8:27 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 19

Does anybody have any interesting wedding superstitions? I've heard so many that contradict each other! Like if you wear pearls on your wedding day, each one represents a time you will cry over your marriage, and I also heard that if you wear pearls it's supposed to stop you from crying on your wedding day! Just wondering if anyone else had any they wanted to share!

Breaking bows? Let me at them with scissors! I will break every one of them! LOL sorry. I've wanted children since I was one myself and there is a history of difficulty getting pregnant in my family plus I am being told to wait 4 or 5 years at least. So the baby urge is getting overwhelming!

All I have heard is that it is bad luck to see each other before the wedding. And that the sun shines on a happy bride or something? And June weddings mean a blissful marriage

I heard that if you get married on the hour, your marriage will go down from there, whereas if you get married on the half hour, it will go up (like the minute hand on the clock).

I suppose this means it's a good thing that although we were supposed to get married at noon, it was actually 12:30 due to the hair and make-up person being late?

@ 2d I've heard that too! I was talking about having our ceremony at 1:00 and my mom told me that, so now we're probably going to go for 1:30

@ julybride16 I saw that too! I was wondering what she was doing that for at first! I wonder if it actually works? I've also heard that putting rosary beads on a clothing line it's supposed to make it stop raining.

@ RachInCali I'm not sure! But all my jewelry is pearls.. even my tiara has pearls in it! So I'm hoping the not crying one is right!

@ Torie C. I've never heard that one! I'll be sure to only break 2! lol

Haha so I had it backwards then. RAIN is good luck. I knew rain was good at a funeral, but I didn't realize at a wedding it was too

In my country people believe that if you get married in the month that has a letter "r" in it (i.e April) you will have long and happy marriedge.

The best time to get married is during Holiday time, easter or Cranival.

The worst is during lant in May and in November.

    If your edding is:

on Monday it will bring you health

    Tuesday - wealth

    Wednesday - the best day

    Thursday - toll

    Friday - suffering

    Saturday - 50/50

    You should wear:

something white - purity of feelings

blue - to prevent from dislayalty and cheating

    new - for wealth

old - support from family and friends

borrowed - for kindness of your new family

If you wear pink it may bring you bad luck.

FH can not see you wearing your wedding dress before your wedding. No other girl should try your dress on (they may never get married).

The bride shouldn't sew her dress herself. Keep a penny in your purse for money in your marriedge. Your singlr BM should help you put the veil on.

I've heard of the days before but not the months! I've also heard the things for something old, something new.. and so on lol. The dress one is interesting! Not that I'd let someone else try my dress on anyways! lol And I've always heard a silver sixpence in your shoe for wealth!

~ It is good luck for the bride to encounter a Lamb on her way to the church to get married.

~ It is good luck for the bride to encounter a Dove on her way to the church to get married; because Doves mate for live. A Dove symbolizes Love, peace, fidelity, prosperity and good luck. If a Dove is seen on your wedding day, a happy home is assured.

~ It is good luck for the bride to encounter a Frog on her way to the church to get married.

~ It is good luck for the bride to cross paths with a Black Cat on her way to the church to get married.

~ It is good fortune for the bride to see a policeman, clergyman, doctor or blind man on her way to the church.

~ The groom should give a ~ Coin to the first person he sees on his way to the church for good luck.

    The Wedding Day

~ It is the best of luck omen for the bride to find a Spider in her gown on her wedding day. (I think I would freak out! I hate Spiders!)

~ Tears from the bride or a child during the wedding service is considered lucky.

~ Snow on your wedding day is a sign of fertility and prosperity.

~ If you marry during the Full Moon, you will have good luck and good fortune.

~ An Open Umbrella (in Chinese culture, the umbrella is red) over the bride will protect her from evil.

    ~ Bad Luck

~ It is bad luck for the bride to meet up with a Lizard, Funeral Procession or a Pig on her way to the church.

~ It is bad luck for a man to encounter a Blind Person, Pregnant Woman, a Monk, or a Nun on his way to propose.

Smiley smile I din't know all of them I looked it up. And there is more:

Put your wedding shoes on a window sill a day before the wedding so good luck can step in them.

Don't sew torn wedding clothes it will bring you tears, if something like that happens use safty-pin.

Start walking dawn the isle with your right leg and don't forget to smile!

If the bride cries during the ceremony she will never cry because of her husband.

If the wedding band falls on the flore somebudy else should pick them up.

Kiss after the ceremony is a sign of faithfulness.

Guests throw rice so the couple never lacks anything they need.

The groom should carry the bride thrue the door of reception hall to give her light and stress free life.

After first toast bride and groom should brake their glasses for good luck
