Surprise dance! Need help deciding what song(s) to use!!

Elisa, on July 7, 2016 at 2:33 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 9

Me and my fiance have decided to go on a limb and surprise everyone with a dance. NO ONE will expect it because it's something neither of us would usually do.

But we need help picking a song or songs!!

I've seen a couple videos on YouTube that people have posted.

Did any of yall do a surprise dance? What songs did yall use??

How fun!! What kind of surprise dance? I've seen ones on YouTube that run through oldies hits like YMCA and Jump On It, or are you thinking more current popular songs?

Why don't you pick a song that the two of you like and go from there?

Are you dancers? Do you have hours to dedicate to working on you're choreography?

Honestly I'd skip this unless the answer to the above questions are 'yes'. It's hard work. And it's stressful.

That's my professional opinion. As a professional dancer.

At the risk of bursting your bubble, every time I've seen this it has been cringeworthy. This is assuming you mean the music just "unexpectedly" changed to this song we happen to have choreographed corny moves for surprise dance.

Well, I think it depends on what you mean by "surprise." Maybe that (what Julie said) is to what people were referring when I understood pro-choreographed dance to be an unpopular opinion.

We just got the full video of ours this week:

We didn't practice as much as we should have (DH definitely looked like he was concentrating), but we still had fun with it and I think it went over just fine.

ETA: To clarify, what Julie mentioned above as UO, and to JoRocka's point, the first dance was the only thing about which DH was nervous - but again, more practice could have helped that).

What type of dancing? Then, I could provide better suggestions. Here are few off the top of my head.

I agree with Jo 100%! I cringe at the idea of a singing/dancing performance by someone that isn't a pro. Not worth your time, IMO.

Still in favor of choreographed first dances here. To answer your question, we used Orange Colored Sky (had the band add a couple extra measures of intro for us).

Not perfect, but I don't feel it was that awkward. I won't be offended if others disagree.
