How can a bride get mad at someone for wearing white to the wedding when none of the guests were told that a wedding was taking place? Then she acts like her MIL did it on purpose to upstage her at the wedding the MIL didn't even know she was attending. That's totally self absorbed and insane.

This has nothing to do with a surprise wedding rather the bride being a brat lol. I am sorry but you do not tell people it is a wedding they can wear what they want. I think surprise weddings are for celebrities that want to keep their weddings secret from the paparazzi lol. I would not have one, if people show up for my wedding I want them to know why they are attending an event I am throwing.

I saw this article earlier. The bride sounds like a total brat. It's her fault for not telling anyone they were attending a wedding. I don't agree with surprise weddings because people that may have wanted to be there might not have come to another event for different reasons. If you are going to have a wedding then you should be honest with all of those invited.

I agree. The FIL shouldn't have criticized his dil's appearance though.

I agree for the most part. I would consider doing it bc I know some ppl wont show if they are under the impression that it's just a regular party.

Okay, that's a very populat opinion. Yes, the bride was being unreasonable.

I’m not having a surprise wedding but always thought that it was a fun idea. Ours is a destination wedding so guests needed to be informed. However I’ve thought of having a surprise vow renewal in the future.

I do too! Many seem to dislike the idea though.

Well, it’s a “surprise”. Not her MIL fault, obviously. She had to know this risk when she was planning.

My cousin had a surprise wedding but it was their immediate family only and they did it in disguise of a family vacation so it worked for them. They had their kids, parents, siblings and grandparents in attendance.

Ha! Well I’m not uptight when it comes to my wedding because I just enjoy having a good time... and I know it’s going to be a GREAT time! FH and I are the party-hosting couple out of our circle of friends. So before covid, we would host 3-4 parties a year (ranging from our birthdays, New Year’s Eve parties, Super Bowl parties, boxing/MMA fight parties, casino night parties, dinner parties, “just because” parties, etc.). We go all out with rentals, decorations, themes, etc. So when we postponed our wedding to next year and selected 10.30.21, it was a perfectly fun date because we plan to have costume parties for our anniversary celebrations. So, most likely on our 5th anniversary, our friends will think they‘re coming to a normal party of ours and it will be our vow renewal. I love out-the-box stuff like that though. 😄

I know a bride who’s fiancé surprised HER with the wedding- he never actually proposed, his proposal WAS the wedding. He had invited her family and his and I believe two or three of her friends (this girl is a mutual acquaintance I know through another friend) to an intimate ceremony he had planned with a caterer and everything, and they actually went through with it. If I remember correctly, she showed up in normal clothes, and didn’t even have suspicions. Somehow, her family even kept it from her. I always thought that was pretty crazy.

Yeah, she was being unreasonable. I don't think the FIL should have insulted the bride's appearance though.

This sounds fun. If organized well, surprise weddings don't seem bad.

Wow, that sounds nice. No, I'm not much of a hoster. The thought of a surprise wedding appeals to me so that the guest list would be smaller.
