With not doing a first look, I definitely say go for it doing pictures when it is just to two of you. I have been seeing where people make special announcements during photos, so instead of a countdown or "say cheese" the one person will announce it, in your case it will be you or someone else (maybe the photographer) can say "we're going to Hawaii!" and I think that will be such a great photo and memorable moment for you both!

I'd play it off until we get to the airport, lol. I mean I'd imagine you'd pack similarly if not the same. Imagine getting to the airport and being like hey hubby lets start our marriage off with a bang, surprise surprise we're going to Hawaii. I mean if you've already booked it fully without him knowing you should totally take this to the end.

I like both response so far. If you end up doing a first look I would do it them when it's just the two of you. Bit if you don't then I would do it on the car ride to the airport. Say something like here hold our boarding passes. . .make sure you ask something that he needs to look at the boarding pass to see where you are going

So not super similar, but I once surprised my MOH/BFF with a huge hotel upgrade on one of our annual girls trips. I kept it a secret until we arrived at the airport and then pulled out my phone for a quick “we’re almost there!” selfie video. It was so not us that she almost immediately knew what was up but it was amazing to have her reaction captured on camera! (I gave a little speech about how grateful I was for her love and support—my dad had recently passed—and how we’re BFF because we have so much in common, including loving the finer things in life.)


That’s all to say—try to have the moment taped if you can!! And have so much fun in Hawaii!!

I did a surprise location trip for someone. He thought we were going to Punta Cana, also a nice place but he dreamed of going to Costa Rica. At the ticket counter I had a note in my passport, “He thinks we’re going to Punta Cana, Costa Rica will be a surprise. Please play along. “. When we got to the gate we sat close enough to hear the boarding call but far enough away so he couldn’t see the sign. When we were in line to board I kept him distracted. He didn’t learn where we were actually going till the FA said “ Welcome aboard flight XYZ to beautiful Costa Rica”. His jaw drop and said are we really going there, is this a mistake. It was awesome. If you can pull it off it will be the best!!!
