Sweating for the Wedding

Hailie, on August 21, 2019 at 11:30 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 17
Hi Ladies, I recently got engaged and my fiancé and I both are trying to lose weight before our May of 2021 wedding. My fiancé has knee problems and I have back problems so losing weight is definitely the goal to help us feel better but in a safe way that won't hurt us long term. Any tips on what has worked best for y'all in this case? Any specific programs, classes, etc.?

If you have joint and back issues, water may be an option. Try swimming and light weight training. We enjoy riding our bikes even with bad backs. Yoga and pilates are also low impact workouts that give your entire body strength and flexibility. But the most important thing is diet. You can run a marathon every week but not lose if you're eating all the wrong things. I have taken to switching out certain favorites for low calorie alternatives, and cut down on carbs (I LOVE pasta but eat riced or spiral vegies instead). Whatever you do, make healthy choices and listen to your body. No extreme diets or 6 hour workouts every day, but small life changes that make you feel better.

Hey! I’m recovering from back surgery. My doctor has me on a weight loss plan because it’ll help with my LT spine health. Rn I’m doing IF under a nutritionist watch. I’m on a plant based diet and have meat 2-3 times a week and seafood 2-3 times a week. I’m also on WW but it may not work for everyone. I like the game-ified approach where there are points and they have to balance out. I also recently started a weight IG which helps keep me motivated :-)

I love the idea of switching out pasta for riced or spiraled veggies. I hadn't thought of that and I am carbaholic! lol What are your favorite brands to buy or do you make it on your own?

Walking is a great form of exercise. As far as healthy food I would try weight watchers or a keto like diet. Watch your carbs and sugar intake and keep a food journal. That helps keep all of us accountable to what we are eating each day and lastly drink lots of water. Good luck !

I try to get fresh from the produce department at my local Kroger or Wegmans, but do want to get a spiraler so I can make my own too. I did just find riced edamame in the frozen section by Seapoint Farms but I haven't tried it yet. I grab the veggie pastas from Birds Eye now and then, they are made out lentils and other vegetables instead of flour. I also found that polenta is a nice treat but does not have as many calories as most pastas. I think it's Birds Eye that has a savory herb riced cauliflower and I hate it! The plain one is ok if I can't get fresh. Good luck and enjoy trying things out.

This might be a dumb questions but what is IF? I do like the weight watchers idea. Is it easy to follow or difficult to figure out?

In terms of losing weight fast it's definitely something like Zumba. Very cardio heavy. And super fun. But I'm a fan of low impact exercise classes (Barre). I've mentioned on this forum a lot about my love for Barre aha BUT Barre isn't really a good exercise to lose weight quickly unfortunately but if you pair it with something cardio intense like you switch workouts on and off for the week, it'd be great because Barre is moreso for toning your body shape nicely.b

The end of my sophomore year of college I succumbed to the freshman 15... +5. I had indulged a bit too much in beer and fast food at 2am. I felt awful about myself and decided to look into a few different diets. The one that worked for me was Whole30. If you ask people, they'll tell you it's a "way of life, not a diet" but it did the trick for me. It's literally 30 days of your life and I went from 149 to 132 in that time frame. 17 pounds!!!! Mind you, I was going to the gym 4-5 times a week but I wasn't doing anything too crazy. I would run 1-3 miles and add a few things here and there. This was over a year and a half ago and I currently weigh 125 pounds so it definitely stayed off. I think a big part of what helped me was looking at photos of myself and realizing how much I hated the way I looked and felt. I knew I had to work my butt off to get back to where I wanted to be. If you need any encouragement please let me know! I'd be happy to do a round with y'all (I really need to) and hold each other accountableSmiley smile

Oh IF is intermittent fasting! I love it! I do either 16:8 or 20:4 and I use the app Zero for tracking. I’ve only been on it a little over a month and I’ve lost a consistently decent amount!

I like WW because I use the app. It’s very easy to do and track. I also synced my WW app with my FitBit so its great for tracking my activity!

OH haha I should've known that lol Thats awesome that you've had good results with it. I might look into WW if it can sync with my fitbit. I didn't know that was possible

It for sure took dedication and planning but I feel like any diet does. You basically cut out all processed foods/dairy/sugar/legumes and only eat meat/fruit/veggies/nuts. It was tough but I kept reminding myself that it was 30 days out of my life. I've tried to do it again with little luck in sticking to all 30 days but I think that's more-so because I'm happy with the weight I'm at so the motivation isn't prominent anymore. I'm scheduled to go dress shopping at the end of next month so I'll probably try doing a round soonSmiley smile

I would look into low impact exercises like swimming, yoga, etc. I would also focus on diet, that will help more than exercise. I'd cut things like soda, added sugar items, desserts, etc.

I suggest going to trader joes they have the best stuff they sell they sell pasta that is not really pasta its made out of brown rice which is way healthier and they have 3 or 4 different kinds. Also they sell pasta made out of beans which is healthier as well . The zuchnni noodles are great too they have them fresh there already made for you and look like spaghetti and you can cook and use a tomato sauce or oil .
