Sweating off spray tan?

Carly, on April 12, 2016 at 3:53 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

I have my first spray tan appointment in years (I've only ever had one before) this afternoon as a trial run to see if it's something I want to do before the wedding. I'm kinda freaked out that it may come off on my dress if I sweat on the wedding day - if you've had/regularly get spray tans, did you experience sweating/activity making the tan run or am I thinking too hard about this?

ETA: Words are hard.

Following. I'm torn between beds (yes, so bad, I know) and a spray since I work out every day and have seen even expensive spray tans get patchy in the armpit area on other people...

Make sure to get your tan a few days before the wedding. Don't shower for 8 hours and when you do, you will wash the excess away

I had mine done 3 days before the wedding. It did come off a little on my bridesmaid brunch dress the day before the wedding but not on my wedding dress.

I've had many spray tans, and never gotten any on my clothing (and I tend to get them before big events where I will be dancing/sweating). Just make sure you get your spray tan a couple days in advance and you should be just fine.

Disclaimer - I get the kind where you go in a booth and there is a machine that sprays the tan on. I have no idea if this would differ if you go to an actual person who sprays you down.

I'll burn and end up looking like a tomato if I try the beds, so that's definitely not an option. It's spray tan or natural skin for me. I'm not opposed to embracing the paleness but I'm super curious about how I'd look with a little color.

Lauren, that's the timeline I was thinking - and that's why I want to go today (really, I should've gone weeks ago but oops) to see what day I look best and all that.

I live in a really hot desert climate, so I've definitely had this issue with sweating and it coming off on my clothing. I found a place that does spray tans with no bronzers in them. So I don't see immediate color, but over the course of the day a nice tan develops. If this isn't an option, then I would wear black clothing like yoga pants and a tank top until enough time has passed that you can shower.

Lauren is right you should always have it a few days before. I always told people at the salon i worked at it was best to get them in the evening after you have showered and just sleep in it and shower in the morning. I have had many sprays tans and the only time i notice it rub on my clothes are the day its done. You will want to avoid getting wet at all when you first get it done as well because water will stop the activation of the tan and can leave you spotty. Exfoliate your body well also so you absorb the tan as evenly as possible.

I used to work at a tanning salon when I was in college. The ones that allow a person to use a spray gun and spray you turn out so much better. I used to ask for it to be pretty light, so it wasn't completely obvious that you had a spray tan. I did the Mystic Tans a few times and it would spray way too much stuff on me to the point it would be running down my legs and leave permanent streaks. Evidently, they have gotten better since the last time I did one, but I can't bring myself to it again. As far as sweating the tan off goes, after the first day you should be fine. Make sure to get it a few days in advance. There have been times I've tried to get rid of the tan..it is not that easy!

Interesting perspectives from everyone. Can any spray tan vets speak to how they hold after a few days of sweat, not just for one event? I know I'd have to get it a few days ahead of time, but wouldn't want to skip the gym until the wedding just because of that (I would eat people alive, working out is my stress reliever).

I read a few horror stories of it coming off so I'm going to my wedding as my pasty white self. But I also saw a few pictures of girls who were nice and tan, and their FH's were white, and it looked so silly. We might be vampiric, but at least we'll match in color haha.

I would definitely do a trial run months before the wedding to be certain.

Im using the bed before my wedding. im not really a sun bather as it currently stands and religiously use sunscreen, so i figure a month of use twice a week leading up the wedding isnt going to be the end of me.

Even when done by hand, i honestly feel like the spray tans have a kind of orangey tint to them and look REALLY scary once they start to fade.

I was just thinking about spray tans. I'm happy to read about everyone's experiences. I'm so afraid I'll develop tan lines throughout the summer and I'll have to spray tan. I tend to naturally tan a reddish brown, (part Native American) instead of a more golden tan, will it look weird or will it cover it? Maybe I'll try having it done soon, but I may live in sweatshirts until August!

As long as you get sprayed a day or two before your wedding, wait 8 hours after getting sprayed before showering or sweating, you should be fine!

Like some of the girls mentioned, you should be able to ask for a solution without bronzer. It's the left over bronzer that usually deposits color on clothes, sheets etc. not the tan itself.

@twosteps I used to work at a salon and have also run my own mobile tanning business. Anything water related (sweating, swimming, showering) is going to make your tan fade faster. But you can still spray maybe 2 days before, just try to wear loose clothing when you work out Smiley smile it's the rubbing and water combined that will leave you streaky. I always suggest a trial run maybe a month before. Since the tans are a bit high maintenance, they are not for everybody.
