Sweetheart table vs king’s table vs ?

What did you decide or what do you plan to have? Do you have a strong preference from a guest perspective being either an attendant or the significant other/random plus one of an attendant seated with or apart from your date based on past experiences either good or bad?

For the two ofus, we had a sweetheart table. It was easy since that's what our venue provides by default. We seated all our bridesmaids with their partners but my sister was at a different table than his sisters. I feel like the attendants don't need to all be at the same table, they can be seated with their partners with whatever friend group they come from.

We did a kings table, which was nice because we could see and talk to our whole wedding party. Then next to the kings table we had a table for immediate family members, and another table for plus ones of the bridal party to all sit together.

We got the idea for a plus one table when I was standing up in a friend's wedding who did it. My now-husband was worried about not knowing anyone for dinner, but everyone at his plus one table was in the same boat and it was a good time.

I was in another wedding where my friend had a sweetheart table of just her and her husband. It was nice to sit with my husband for dinner, but it was unassigned seating. So after the grand entrance, I had to wind my way through the crowd to the back where my husband was sitting with one of the groom's aunts and the band members. It ended up being more awkward than if there was simply a plus one table.

If I had to do it again, I would probably choose the plus one table idea again, or have a sweetheart table with an assigned table or two nearby for the wedding party and their plus ones. Often, your wedding party doesn't know anyone else at the wedding either.

We did one huge kings table for everyone in attendance! All of our guests were equally important to us, and we wanted everyone to feel like family. Plus, I didn’t like the idea of sitting at a sweetheart table “on display”, separate from our guests. That was just our personal preference though. I see nothing wrong with a sweetheart table for the couple if they want to have a moment alone to eat together. I don’t care for the old fashioned “head table” with the bride and groom, and their BMs & GM though. Not only does it give the wedding a silly prom vibe, but they can also be quite rude if it requires separating the wedding party from their spouses and/or children.
