Swelling Fingers?

Opalite, on April 2, 2017 at 7:03 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 12

I was wondering if anyone else here has an issue with fingers that seem to swell with the phases of the moon. I kid, but today was the first warm day we've had in Massachusetts in quite a while, and for the first time in a long time my engagement ring actually felt sort of snug. I was dehydrated and drank a bunch of water which seemed to help, and now it's cooler out and my ring is spinning around my finger. Any tips to reduce random finger swelling? I have to send my wedding band back to get re-sized because I wore it for a day (breaking the rules, I know) and by the end of the day it felt pretty snug.

You're right, I should. I need to schedule a physical pretty soon anyway, so I'll bring it up then.

My ring finger swells as well but only at night and in winter the ring fits looser. My fingers may have always did this prior to getting my engagement ring but I noticed when I actually got a ring on my finger. Now I put my ring away at night to prevent it from being stuck in the am. If i get it resized larger itll fall of my finger or if it were smaller I wouldn't be able to fit it back over my knuckle

Honestly I think it's normal but definitely get it checked out if your worried. I got engaged in the fall and resized my ring to a perfect fit. In the winter my ring got very loose when I was cold and I was even sometimes worried it would fall off. My fiance and I went on a cruise in the winter and were in 80+ degree weather.. My ring felt very secure and didn't budge. My friend also told me that your ring will fit better with your wedding band which I proved to be correct. Whenever I wear my wedding band with my engagement ring my ring fits perfectly and it doesn't spin at all.

Finger swelling, normally, is natural when it's really hot, during/after excercise, when you're pregnant, or in similar situations. Your ring should be sized so it's not hurting you when your hands do swell but not falling off/easily removable when it is colder out. The only tips I have are staying hydrated and not wearing your ring when exercising, swimming, sleeping, etc (it's neither good for your hand/skin nor for your ring itself).

My MOH's parents are jewelers back in MA and when I got my ring sized with them in Dec they made sure to account for that because I now live in FL.

Thanks to all for sharing, it's comforting to know I'm not the only one! Chridy, you're right about the ring fitting better with the wedding band. I think part of the problem is that my engagement ring has an extremely thin band and is top-heavy, so that's why it spins when it's cooler out. I loved wearing the wedding band for a trial day because it's a guard, and made the ring feel much more stable. I wonder if guards need to be sized up a bit more than normal because they are wide?

Becky, thank you for the info! I definitely don't wear my ring when I'm sleeping because I'm afraid of breaking it, and I'll make sure not to wear it while I'm exercising too.

You're definitely not the only one! My sister's hands swell regularly, especially in the morning (of overnight I guess) and in the heat. Mine swell during/after exercise.

Mine swell when it's hot but not to the point that it's uncomfortable. Just noticeable. I don't wear my ring to sleep and take it off a lot anyway so it doesn't really bother me too much.

My fingers always swell whenever I get hot! I always get nervous and think I gained weight because my ring feels tight, but when I cool off it fits perfectly again! Smiley smile

Swelling is pretty normal. The swelling can fluctuate from diet, pregnancy, working out, losing weight, etc.

If you are worried call a doctor, but I see it all of the time

That's one of the things I'm worried about for the ceremony! That he'll go to put on the ring and my finger will be too fat/swollen to get the ring on! Ughhhh
