Swimming with engagement ring

Yesenia, on March 9, 2018 at 10:41 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 20
My friends are wanting to go to Wekiva springs and I’m not sure if I should wear my engagement ring or not. My fiancé says it should be fine to wear it but I don’t want to loose my ring, and I’ve seen so many sites saying not to wear your ring while swimming. Someone help please!

I think there was someone on here who lost their ring in a lake once from swimming. I wouldn't do it because I would fear it slipping off and never being able to find it!

Do you usually wear jewelry to swim? I don't, so I wouldn't wear my engagement ring swimming either.

Last year there was a bride who posted a heartbreaking tale of losing her ring while swimming in a lake at her bachelorette party. They spent the entire weekend searching for it, but never found it. It is not worth the risk. Do not swim with your ring.

I wouldn’t...I don’t travel with mine internationally either. I wear a “decoy” ring. Lol—a cubic zirconia.

I usually go swimming in just a plain band because saltwater isn’t very good for your rings and I lived in Florida. I feel weird without a ring on so the band is a lot better and I’d only be a little sad if I lost it.

Thank y’all so much for your responses!!! Very helpful!! I won’t ever go swimming with my ring and I love that idea of the silicone rings I’ll have to get one!

I've heard a lot of horror stories of people swimming with rings and closing them in the water. (My uncle is a retired jeweler) I wouldn't suggest it.

ETA: Probably should read to the end of the thread before posting. lol

My sweetie and I are going to be getting wedding band tattoos about 6 months or so after our wedding, (mainly because of his job working with large appliances and electronics), so luckily, even if we have to take our rings off, we will still have the matching tattoos.

I don’t think there’s a reason to risk it. I can understand not wanting to take off your engagement ring, but taking it off for a day is better than losing it while swimming.

I ordered a cheap one off amazon for the summer since we are on the lake everyday and I learned while getting my ring dipped that I DID NOT like not having something on my finger.

One time I wore it snorkeling and one time I didn't. If you're scared it'll fall off then don't wear it

I have a silicone ring for working out/hiking/swimming. It's such a peace of mind knowing that my ring is safely at home in its little box and the silicone is taking the hit. I've lost one of the silicone and it obviously wasn't nearly the panic losing my ring would be.

If you ring is fitted to your finger and is sized appropriately then you should have no issue. If you ring can easily be removed, is loose, etc then I would not.
