Sword for cake cutting too far??!?

Alyssa, on November 16, 2018 at 9:38 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 12
So

how bad is it to get another full sized sword

and cut the cake with it?

i mean if it’s a hobbit sized sword...

I saw an idea to use letter opener sword replica for cake knife and immediately saw an excuse to get a second sword. We already have a full sized Anduril

i mean the letter opener is beyond awesome and in my honest opinion a much better idea than the sword for a cake knife...

but

I’m going to be keeping all of my awesome centerpieces (pretty much all but 2 like actual movie replicas and recognizable icons from both series (to readers only, movies goers only, and those who read them and saw the movies) into a Tolkien collection after the wedding

ive got the evenstar, we have anduril (full size replica), I have the full size replica keys to Erebor and the Mirkwood jail, a light of earendil that glows under uv light, the pillars of aragnoth statues and a replica statue of Minas Tirith, we have two snow globes: the tower and eye of Mordor, and Gollum finding the hobbits game sleeping in Emyn Muil, and a wooden prancing pony sign, a wooden beer tankard with a silver plaque with green dragon logo, Thorin map with moon runes visible under uv light...

but i I really want a full sized, illuminating (yes you read that right) Sting replica

is it way way too much to cut the cake with a sword

hobbit sword... so it’s reasonable right? I’m mean I don’t want to use the 50” Anduril or anything...

or stick with letter opener and find another excuse for fiancé to buy me Sting?

pictures to follow from tablet asap

Should have started we're having a Middle Earth Themed wedding based on Tolkien’s works

    Or get

Sting, Glamdring, and Orcrist in letter opener size and use for cake?

My FH is Scottish, and one of the family traditions is cutting the cake with a sword! We'll be using a broad sword for ours! It's gonna be exciting for sure!

I don't think it's too much at all to use a full size sword if that's what you want to do! Lots of people use swords to cut their wedding cakes for various reasons (military traditions, various themes, etc.). I know these aren't necessarily the type of sword you're talking about, but these are just a few of the results I found on Pinterest:

So far we cannot get the light up sting (out of production so long they start at 500) so I got it in letter opener

im hopefully getting Orcrist or Glamdring for the cake cutting still and just using sting as extra decor but I have it for cake knife if we cannot get another full sized sword

or we may use Anduril that Glenn already has

    Thank you

So far we have quite letter opener sting to put on table as cake cutter but we're planning to get an orcrist (most not like basic sword) and have it concealed under table and do something silly like go to table, take letter opener and say yeah right and toss to side and get out full sized sword from under table and do cake cutting

I think it fits your theme and would be cool! How big is a hobbit sized sword (out of curiosity, I think it would be fun no matter the size). I also really like your letter opener idea as well!

I can not wait to see pictures of your wedding. It is going to be so fun!

Sting is under 20 inches including pommel

anduril is just over 53 inches including pommel and we already have it but it will be SO’s attire so by the time we get to cake cutting at 8 it would be old news that everyone has already “seen and admired” so I prefer something else to do cakes... plus I’m under 5 feet so andruil is huge for me even if we cut together

orcrist is just under 43” also with pommel

i think the illuminating sting is a bit more than we would like to spend so I already have letter opener like 8-10” which we are going to have out on dessert table with cake server but I’m thinking we will get orcrist (because glamdring doesn’t look particularly special or different than medieval sword from distance) and hide under dessert table and maybe do something playful like go to table, pick up letter opener, look at each other and say nah and toss it to side and pull orcrist from under table and use it for cake cutting
