Symbolic elopement done

Jojo, on October 9, 2019 at 3:35 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
We eloped! It was a symbolic ceremony out of the country. We both live in the USA. If anyone can suggest or has done it before - how did you guys make it legal? We haven’t done that part yet. We are thinking of hosting a reception and making it legal on that day minus all the wedding stress. Has anyone done it this way? What did you do? Any suggestions? We just want it to be relax and stress-free as possible.

I believe you would have to have a U.S. marriage license, but I would call your local county/city to see if you can bring in your out of state license and get the in state license.

You would need to apply for a marriage license and have a ceremony in the United States. Each state and county is different as far as rules on who can officiate that ceremony. Then you would need to sign that license along with your officiant and sometimes a witness, send it in and get a certified copy.

I believe you just apply for your marriage license.. You don't have to have a ceremony, but you will have to go to the courthouse and have a judge sign it.

Thanks ladies! Already researched that part. I’m just trying to figure out how to creatively include my loved ones since they missed out. I’d rather not go to the courthouse and since our reception is going to be the weekend courthouse is closed. Just wondering if anyone has done this route in regards to making it legal.

We’d rather not re-create our wedding vows as well. I guess all I’m trying to figure out is any ideas on how to creatively make the legal part of our union to be witnessed by our loved ones minus the recreation of wedding vows or making it a “wedding”. It’s going to be my birthday as well so “triple” celebration
