Table Assignments - Did you get backlash?

I am assigning tables, not seats just the tables and I am making sure to keep people who don't like each other at separate tables, etc.

I have received a little bit backlash though, saying that open seating is better. I’m not changing it. Too late now and the thought of it stresses me. We are twenty days away.

Have you received backlash? The way I look at it is people will be at their tables for dinner and then will be up and mingling anyways. I just picture open seating to be a complete disaster and cliquey.

Trying to avoid a high school lunchroom scenario.

Open seating often pleases socially forward people, who enter and claim seats for themselves, friends, at their tables and others. The rest if the people hate having to sit in a single seat, or scattered from all friends, plugging in leftover holes. Be nice, assign tables, and let people pick chairs .

That is my plan, they can sit where they want at the table.

We have assigned seating at our wedding coming up next week (AHHHHHH!). Assigned tables is a must in my opinion, keeps things organized since people are notoriously horrible at seating themselves efficiently. We just took it a step further and assigned seats since our venue registers who gets which meal that way.

Everyone I’ve spoken to (including my future in laws) agrees that when people assign tables, they often don’t understand family dynamics. Example: what if you don’t know your cousins aren’t talking to each other? Another Example: My coworker was really upset her niece sat her with her in laws but not her son/daughter.

We’re not having an excessive amount of tables so it’s not like we’re going to have gaps at tables or anything.

We assigned tables & seats, and received no backlash. We got several compliments on how fun the seating was & how people sat next to who they would have picked anyway.

Assigned tables seems like the best option! You avoid any awkwardness if seats are left open and people standing for too long to find seats as well. It's a smoother flow to get your dinner started on time.
