Table cloths.

Jessie, on August 16, 2019 at 7:42 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 18
My venue will supply the table cloths (white or ivory) and the chairs they supply are white. My dress is ivory and our color scheme are more earthy colors. I'd like to go with the ivory table cloths but I'm afraid it'll clash with the white chairs. I don't want to have to buy or rent table cloths, what is your opinion?

I think it's okay to have ivory cloths with white chairs. Most people really won't notice!

I would just do all white, you can always break up the white with your decorations or buying cheap table runners. It’s cheaper than tablecloths.

I’d go all white and maybe do a colored napkin.

People's clothes do not need to coordinate in any way, with furnishings, whether chairs and table linens, or carpet, drapes, flowers . It is bad decoration and bad fashion design to play matchy matchy all over with the color of your clothes. Go into the most elegant buildings and homes, now or in centuries past. Palaces, mansions, elegant restaurants. Beautiful films. The places pointed out as the height of elegance. And look at fashion leaders. The only time clothing colors have anything to do with decor, is when they are specifically chosen to not match. To use contrast, or complementary colors to show off, not match, the others. . . .If for no better reason, think of your photos. I absolutely hate seeing wedding pics turns that are lousy, despite an excellent photographer's best efforts. Because if matchy matchy, decor and clothing. Candid pictures, as bridesmaids dressed in the exact same color as table linens, and single color floral displays, seem to have rectangular growths coming out of one side hip. Bridesmaids and bride, BM in gold, or red, standing against the same color drapes. Looking like a bride posed with a row of arms and heads. Please, do not choose table linens to match your gown. Or bridesmaids' gowns. Make sure they are a different shade, when of similar color. So you stand out in the picture. Surrounded by complementary colors, no clash, but not fading into the background matching furniture. This decade long trend of matching clothes to furnishings makes money for those who sell wedding things, since it costs more to buy lots and lots of things you do not need, to get color matches. But aesthetically, it is terrible to have too much matching. A varied palette is much richer, more elegant.

I would definitely go with white table cloth and white chairs. You can incorporate the earthy tone color scheme in the centerpieces.

Hi! I have a similar situation, except for the chairs. My tablecloths are all white, but my dress, flowers, and other things are ivory color. Personally, I don't think it will matter if your chairs are white and the cloths are ivory. Everyone is going to be seated for the most part, and you won't even see the chairs then. Have an awesome day and God bless you and your husband-to-be!

Save the money and go with the included tablecloths. I bet you spend that money better elsewhere.

To be honest no one might even notice they going to pay more attention to the bride and groom. But if it’s an issue go with white on white and just go with some color in the centerpiece or plates so it can pop out. Hopefully this helps

I'm in the same situation... ivory dress, white chairs and a choice of ivory or white tablecloths. I chose white tablecloths. Like Judith^ said, there's no reason to match the linens. I thought ivory tablecloths would look off with white chairs.

Go white on white. Ivory and white right next to each other can make the ivory look dirty.

I'd do ivory with white. People know you don't typically get to dictate chair color, but I think the tablecloths will be close enough to other decor (centerpieces, etc.) that the ivory would look nice.

Consider switching the white chairs to brown or gold and use ivory table cloth.
