Table Numbers, what's best?

Bethany, on September 7, 2020 at 11:22 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10

Hey peeps, I need some input! I am finalizing our seating chart. We have assigned tables, not assigned seats. I've read a lot of blogs that say "numbers equal value of the people at those tables to the bride and groom" (which I think is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.. a rating system via table number?), and I've also heard that putting table "1" closest to the reception entrance is best and creating an evident pattern. Below is the floor plan I'm working with and the only thing that may make it complicated is that the 1st table that guests would go to would technically be in the middle of the room.

We are getting married in a barn. tables 1-7 are on the main level, and then 8-12 are elevated sort of like a "loft". Not crazy high, just 4 steps off the main level with a metal wire railing for safety. But I just wondered if anyone had suggestions about the table number arrangement to make it easy for guests!

** Table 5 and down would be in the "loft" area. 2 small stairways to the right side of table 7, and to the left side of table 12.

I think as long as you have a diagram along with the numbers you'll be solid

I would probably do a U shape with numbers and go around in a circle. I would just make it clear on your seating chart or place cards which are on the upper floor.

I think it's more that people think the couple cares about them more if they're seated closer to the couple, and the couple is often seated at table 1. If anyone complains about their table NUMBER... they need a hobby. Try not to worry about that.
I think your seating arrangement looks fine, but the numbers are kind of confusing.
I just started typing suggestions and then realized that I think you just swapped 5 and 8. If that's the case, swap them back and it makes perfect sense.

The table set up and numbers look fine to me. I don't think anyone will think twice about their table number. I know it's not the point of your post, but please be careful since it appears you will be having around 100 guests in an indoor setting at your wedding. Best of luck

...We didn't even have table numbers that went "in order"! We named our tables after our favorite baseball players from the history of our team... so we had numbers all over the map.

The only time I've ever seen people care about the table they are at is when things are laid out poorly, and they can't see/speakers are too close/etc, basically, comfort issues.

Right now, though, that just looks like a super large gathering for current events.

The venue was going to allow me up to 134, so thank you but it’s quite alright.

Yes the comfort level does make sense! Luckily these tables are all pretty clear of DJ equipment and whatnot!

And it’s really not. Maybe it’s just a location thing, but Ohio is operating pretty much as normal now. The venue was going to actually allow me to have up to 134, and give me an overflow spot on the upper deck for 20+ more if I needed. We just decided 115 was plenty for us and our budget.

Daughter's venue assigned the table numbers so they were consistent with the order the servers and kitchen staff are used to (to facilitate getting the correct meals to the right tables during dinner service). The first table to the left of the Sweetheart table was #2 and then they were number sequentially clockwise around the room, and the last table was #13. The G's family was at table 2 the B's immediate family was at #13. The large wedding party (sitting with their SO's or friends) were spread out among 4-5 tables on the opposite side of the dance floor from the Sweetheart table (so the wedding party was in direct eye-line with the B&G).

As a guest, it helps a lot if the tables are in a pretty clear numerical order, that way if I'm looking for table 9 and I find table 7 it's pretty easy to figure out where 9 is likely to be. If the numbers are all randomly placed around the room, it's a lot more confusing.
