Table scatter gems

Misty, on December 1, 2012 at 12:43 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 6

OK, I want to order some from ebay, but I cannot conceptualize how much 2000 gems is. I imagine I'd need a small handful for each table, and we'll have 6 tables. So let's compare it to, say, bags of rice or beans. 2000 6mm gems...would you say that's a 1lb bag of rice? less? more? Can anyone tell me? Thanks!

Usually you scatter from 5-11 depending on how "jewley" you want it. You can even get up to 15, but I can't give you an idea of how big it would be for a bag. If you figure about 11-15 for each table then you're looking at needing about 90 gems, maybe 100 so that you have some spares. Have you checked the prices at Oriental trading company's website? It may end up being a better value. Just saying. with 2000 you would have 330 per table with 20 to spare.

These are very small, like 1 carat diamonds and smaller. 5 to 11 would not be visible on 8 foot round tables. Here's a scaled image of what they look kind of like...

I think 2000 of that size would be about a half lb of rice, maybe a bit more, those diamonds are a bit small, you may want to get one bag per table, or per two tables, just to be sure depending on how much they are, and if you get too many you can always put them elsewhere in the reception like your cake table.

What about larger gems? It would take fewer of them to make a statement.

I think it will be a mess cleaning up all those small ones. Some venues won't let you use confetti and those look confetti sized.

I bought a small bag (about 6 ounces) at Michael's of clear, aqua, and silver gems. Cut at odd angles, but roughly the size of a grape. I used them on an 8' table at a wedding show.

I don't care for the large ones. I got the idea actually from seeing the set up of another wedding at our venue. They do all the clean-up, so no problem there.

It really depends on the look you are going for and the coverage you will need. Are you sure your tables are 8' rounds? That would be a HUGE table LOL! Typical sizes for round tables are 5' or 6' seating 8-10 guests, respectively. Do you have a photo of what you are planning to do with them, that would help us give you an estimate of how much you will need.
