Table setting/linen help

M, on October 20, 2017 at 4:39 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 24

Hi everyone, happy Friday!

My FH and I went to our reception venue to go over table settings and linen options. We will have four round tables of 5 and 6 and then one head table. Our colors are burgundy and gold with touches of blush and navy.

Our coordinator first suggested a burgundy table cloth as a base with a gold overlay. One overlay has an embroidered pattern (FH loves this) and the other is an iridescent gold. I'm not sold on either of the two and can't picture it all together with the centerpieces.

The room is dark cherry colored wood and dimly lit. Overall, I think the burgundy table cloth is just too much burgundy against the walls and the chairs but I'm not sure what other color to do. My MOH suggested either a blush or navy table cloth with gold chargers and burgundy napkins but I can't picture that either.

Below I'll attach the table setting with the embroidery that FH likes and then the other option in the comments along with centerpiece inspiration.

I agree that it is too much burgundy- but I also kind of feel like the blush table cloth with all the red in the room will give it a valentines day-ish vibe. Are gold tablecloths an option? I also think the navy table cloths would look good!

Second option. She didn't have any full sized linens for this look but the shiny burgundy would be the base and then the iridescent gold would be the overlay. To be honest I think both options look cheap/dated and not what comes to mind when I think of elegant tables lol.

Agree w @DeannaT, I would just do white and pull in your colors with chargers, centerpieces etc.

I think the burgundy in the table would make it to dark. You need a color that will lighten and brighten the room up a bit.

This is the inspiration for the centerpieces except the dish the flowers will sit in will be lower to the table.

Gold table cloths are an option but the ones she had available were either very dark almost green or way too bright like mustard.

I think it is way too much burgundy. The navy would be better but still it would feel really dark. Maybe blush? But I agree with a PP about a valentineish-feel. I think ivory would probably be the best way to go, with gold chargers and either burgundy or navy napkins. The ivory would really help lighten up the room

Depending on what is available, I would choose champagne or an ivory if there is one without too much of a yellow undertone.

There are tools on linen vendor websites where you can draft a sneak peak on what something might look like.

    http://www.bbjlinen.com/DesignCenter/ is one.

Hmmm you could also do an ivory then do blush/burgundy napkins or blush/navy since your centerpieces will have the burgundy. I definitely feel like the room needs lightening up! We are doing blush & burgundy too, but I think I'm gonna do a plain tablecloth and incorporate the colors in other ways

Thank you everyone for your suggestions! I do think going lighter would be better. If you have any pictures of a blush and burgundy or navy and burgundy table settings that would be great. I'm not finding any on Pinterest as of yet Smiley smile

I think a blush linen with burgundy napkins would look lovely! And lighten up the room a bit too.

I was going to vote for an ivory, too, but that pic with the light blush looks pretty too

I kind of like your moh's idea! Just a touch of burgundy without overdoing it.

I think I'm really liking the idea of a blush ( very pale) with burgundy napkins and gold chargers...

I agree with the lighter color base tablecloth, whether that is ivory or blush.

I really think that doing either burgundy or navy as the base colors would both be too dark. That is one of the color combos I was going to do, and to be honest, it was very hard to keep it from looking like 4th of July, so I took out the burgundy, and now have ivory, navy, and gold.

The only touch of navy we have is the tux for FH and the two groomsmen. so navy for the four tables wouldn't be too bad, but as pp's have said it goes back to being dark. I think white or ivory would be too bright so I think some sort of blush is my best bet

Totally agree! The one that Summer987 posted is gorgeous! I also think cream and white would be better. I agree that it looks very dated in that picture you posted... On Pinterest I even saw some where they didn't even use tablecloths and just did pretty plate chargers, napkins, and table runners and I thought it looked very modern and gorgeous if done correctly.... I'll try to find a picture of it

I, too, was going to say ivory linen with burgundy napkins - but seeing the blush cloth changed my mind. I like the blush with the burgundy napkins and your centerpieces. I think it will look great!

I would not do the overall, but add the gold in the form of chargers, flatware or the centerpieces.
