table size and centerpiece size question

Nikki, on August 4, 2015 at 1:57 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

We're having a lunch reception and were originally going to do 4' round tables to seat 8 people, but our rental company suggested going to 5' tables. They said 4' would be ok for lunch but that they normally suggest 5' ones if you're seating 8 people at it. Those of you seating 8ppl/table, what size are your tables? And out of curiosity, do you have a preference between round or rectangular tables (from the point of view of a guest)?

Also... what's the general size footprint of centerpieces for 5' round tables?

I prefer round tables, but my vendor only offered rectangle so that's what we're working with. I guess your centerpiece size depends on what else you will have on you tables (plates, glasses, silverware, napkins, glasses, ect.). What centerpieces where you thinking of? Flowers, vases, candles, combination?

This may be able to help with the seat/table size situation

Size wise, I agree with Bailey. Centerpiece wise, my florist told me 1sq foot looks good on both 60" and 72" tables.

We had 5' and 4' tables and our caterer suggested seating 9 and 7 people at them, respectively. She said we could squish 1 extra person in at each table if we needed, so we had between 7 and 10 people at each table depending on how friend/family groups worked out.

We had a mix of centerpieces, but both were on the smaller side and didn't change based on table size. We had small round floral arrangements as well as flowers in multiple milk bottles. I'll try to see if I have any good pictures yet.

ETA: pictures. These aren't the best shots for scale, but you can kind of get the idea. The first picture is the round arrangement and the second one is a group of small bottles.

We weren't sure about what to have for centerpieces but they will likely be floral. I bought champagne ice buckets too so we could have one of each of those/ table, except that one bottle only hold enough for 6 flutes which doesn't work for a table of 8 Smiley sad

ETA: oh and no candles because it's the afternoon... each person will have a lunch plate, salad plate, water goblet, tall goblet for other drink and champagne flute

I am doing 60" (5') round tables because it's what our vendor has in stock. We will sit 8 per table. HOWEVER I was working at a wedding this past weekend and they had up to ELEVEN at 60" tables. It was tight though. Our centrepieces are going to be on cut wood slabs (trunk of a tree) that are about 12". Then I'll place everything on top of it. As a guest I prefer round tables with centrepieces you can see above or are thin enough to be able to still speak with the person across the table.

We also have a 60"/5' round tables included with our venue. I was told that the maximum they will sit at that size table is eight people.

For centerpieces, you probably won't want to exceed one foot square, just to give you guests enough room on the table to all the china, silverware, and glasses you have

Holy moly! 11 per table seems like a lot! Also that's a good point about centerpieces being low enough to see over.

1' square is a good size for me to start using to figure out centerpieces. Thank you, ladies!!
