Tablecloth Help

Kaitlyn, on September 28, 2020 at 1:16 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 6
Hi all!! So, my wedding was Saturday and it was outside. It poured down rain, and even though we were under a tent, the tablecloths ended up super muddy. On top of that therea was that spilled on some from the pillar candles. Is it worth attempting to find somewhere to get them cleaned to give someone else a chance to use them or just rat the cost and their them out? There are 21 total. Thanks in advance!

Personally I would just toss them.

I second Molly, and would probably just toss them. If you can salvage some and use them for rags, or clean what you can and donate to a shelter, that may be a good option.

Are they polyester tablecloths? Can't you put them in the washing machine?

They are polyester, I just don't know if the washing machine would work because of the wax.

I agree with just tossing them. Hopefully they weren’t too expensive!

If you want to try and save them, Google "getting wax out of cloth." I think the basics are you pry off any large lumps with a dull knife, then with absorbent paper on either side of the wax stains, you use an iron to melt/draw out as much of the residue as possible. After that, you can use a stain treatment on them prior to washing them. It may or may not work, but you can try if you think you or someone else might want to use them in the future. If they end up being too stained to salvage, you might see if your local animal shelter wants them for pet blankets rather than just throwing them away.
