Tacky or no?

Quite curious, what are some thing you refuse to have at your wedding decoration wise? Cheap doesn't necessarily mean tacky. Backdrops?

Lanterns?

Balloons?

The paper bells?

I want to do some additional decorations besides just signs but don't want anything to look tacky or thrown together. Just trying to get ideas! Pictures are a bonus! Thanks!

I personally don't like real flowers, I am super allergic to them and I don't want to have red eyes and a runny nose on the big day. I am doing a brooch bouquet instead. With lanterns and candles as centerpieces.

Mirror centerpiece bases and floating candles. They just seem very outdated to me. 😜

I was going to choose the Chinese lanterns (bulbs) for our beach wedding/reception but I discovered they could do string lights in a dome over the reception area. Adding lots of candles and some tiki torches for the island feel. I was going miminal on decor and tiki torches dont really seem classy but I think guests will like them for a night beach reception. I've seen some people go overboard with decor that looks like a rustic hodgepodge of nick knacks. They don't stand out enough for people to notice or be wowed. Seems like a lot of work for little value but it should match your style and the theme you want to create. You get to decide whether its tacky or not because it's your wedding. I think guests only care that service is decent and they have a good time.

I definitely don't think they're tacky (in fact they're the classic) but I personally won't be having any roses at my wedding.

The things that I think are tacky are more certain "traditions" like the bouquet and garter tosses, and the horrific awkwardness that ensues.

Electric slide, cotton eyed joe, etc

The bride and groom game where they raise the shoes? That always seems to go on and on.

Bottom line it's what you as bride and groom
like and can afford. I've been to weddings that
cost well over $50,000 plus and yet I went
to weddings that was very low budget but
was so beautiful. Myself I'm having bling blig
Mirror center piece with floating candles
In tall cases. I'm a big kid in heart if I can get
balloons there I would. Nothing will look or
be tacky at my event. I'll make sure post pics.

Be careful. Having too much of what you listed can easily and quickly become tacky, especially if it looks cheap.

We also have a rustic barn venue. It’s already outfitted with twinkle lights, so I’m just going to wrap some greenery around the vertical columns. As for a backdrop, there’s this AWESOME stone wall that we’ll make our “photo booth” area but I don’t want to cover it up because the backdrop is so cool already

No balloons or paper lanterns etc. I’m also not a fan of paper plates, even the fancy ones. I’m doing dyed sola wood flowers for our rustic wedding/reception and they are gorgeous and won’t be dead in a week. I thought about real flowers, but felt it was such a waste. These are some of what I’ve done.

I cant really think of any situation this might come up honestly. you just don't even think about what you don't like because it's hard enough thinking of and choosing all of the things you do right? I guess what I would say no to is anything that is joking that one of us might run or doesnt want to be there or got forced into it. I get it's a joke but I think it undermines the purpose of the entire day and theres plenty of other ways to be cute and silly without implying one of us isnt the one or are not ready lol. That's all I can think of.

I love your flowers. I did sola as well and don't regret anything! I love your boutonnieres and I believe some are corsages? How did you decide how to make your corsage? I have been dying on making those lol .

You would think, surprisingly theres so many forums based on what are absolute no go's i more so just wanted opinions on what would be considered tacky. lol I agree with you though I hate the jokes about cold feet especially because some people really do just have anxiety that causes cold feet and were essentially making fun of them.

I'm thinking about doing the greenery around the pillars as well. Are you purchasing garlands for that?

I love the sola flowers! I can't see spending so much money on flowers only to throw them away after a week. These make a great memento from your big day and can be worked into your home for decor after.

My venue doesn’t allow hanging anything on the walls either, such a bummer because I wanted twinkle lights. I found a backdrop on Amazon for $15 if you want a link, I bought it but they have multiple designs. Also if you have a Party City they do balloons for .90 cents and they have those gigantic ones! I thought about getting like 4-5 of them to hang over the dance floor with garland hanging down. Gotta get creative when the venue won’t let me decorate lol
