TACKY OR NOT???? Spring wedding with snow

FutureMrs.Jones, on December 22, 2014 at 11:47 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 31

The venue I am having my reception at stated to me that they have a snow machine and asked if I wanted to use it (small extra fee, for cleaning up). My only concern is will it be tacky? We would only use it for a last dance and exit. The snow machine is in the ceiling. What are y'all thoughts?

Fake snow is always gross. its crunky frozen recycled sewer water.

unless you are taking about not frozen fake snow, like Disneyland uses, if its indoor thats my bet, its soap bubbles. it can stain and leave sticky film on things.

It's bizarre honestly. Work with your season, not against it.

Yeah....what Andi said. Not something I would like...as I guest I would be irritated if my clothes were stained. Plus I hate seeing snow in the winter, and would hate seeing (even fake!) snow when the weather is warm and winter is long gone.

I wouldn't say tacky, just odd. Why would you want snow in the spring?

Ok, in May it could legitemately be snowing where I'm from, LOL. So, personally it wouldn't be that weird, but even here in May people are starting to get annoyed by snow. I think if I were wearing a fancy dress as a guest and fake snow got stuck to me and in my hair I might be annoyed (unless it was spectularly aesthetic).

Thanks ladies. I am in NC and the weather is kind of tricky here but we do not have "real" snow in May. Normally warm or rainy weather. I did not give the venue an answer when they mentioned it to me. I also thought it would be weird to have fake snow in May.

If you don't normally have snow then that makes it even more weird..

I don't think it'd be tacky, but it would be weird. I'm from NC too, if I went to a spring or summer wedding and they had a snow machine going, my thought would just be "umm...okay?"

For a May wedding I wouldn't. Maybe a December or January wedding but even then, yeah..kind of tacky.

I love snow. I would still want to know what this fake snow is since it is indoors? Seems odd.

As a guest, I would not like anything getting my hair or clothes wet while indoors.

Wait, I missed the part that it was in the ceiling! so it's indoors? that's even weirder...won't that make the floor wet? Isn't that a slipping hazard? I don't like the sound of that at all.

I don't think it's tacky, however your wedding is in May. That would seem very odd to me.

From what I've heard, they make evaporative machines that cause the snow to melt before it hits the floor, so there is no wet mess to cause a slipping hazard. I saw this done on one of David Tutera's budgetless weddings (that show always cracked me up -- "Hi, David, I'm having my wedding right in the back yard and we're going to hang some tulle over the pit bull cage, and I'm going to wear my 1992 gown that I got at the Salvation Army for $13, and my theme is swamps and frogs. Can you help me make my swamp fairytale wedding a reality?"). Of course, as with everything Tutera does, it was spectacular, but never forget, he has no budget, so there were tons of flocked everygreens, faux iced trees, white everywhere, and enough candles to heat the room. For everyone actually paying for their wedding, you have to have a heavily winter themed atmosphere for falling snow to make sense, so in this case, I'd let it go.

I dont think it's tacky, However I think it would be more suited for a winter wedding.. i.e. December/Jan.
