Tacky rehearsal dinner?

Our rehearsal is on a Thursday and there are very few options close by. My mom lives 15 minutes away and offered her house. Our rehearsal is on a Thursday and there are very few options close by. My mom lives 15 minutes away and offered her house. Is it tacky to just have sandwich trays, salads, veggies at her house for the dinner? Every member of the party has a child in the party, who also has school the next day, and they have work. We want to keep it simple. I'm thinking I can pick it up earlier in the day and take it out when we get there them people can eat and leave when they want ad some have an hour ride home. I know I did order trays of hot food, but some one would have to stay behind to set it up.

I think it sounds perfect. My so was just in a wedding where the rehearsal dinner was basically a mini wedding reception. It was nice but all I could think was, do we have to do all this? Isn't this all a bit much? We live within walking distance to the beach and I'm thinking of doing a BBQ on the beach. (although I know my parents will throw a fit because it's not "fancy")

W are doing pizza at my in laws home, and they live nearby the venue. It's totally fine; there's nothing really tacky about a rehearsal dinner as its not really necessary and can be casual. As long as you provide a meal.

The RD is a practice for the wedding so everyone knows where to go and when not to step on somebody's toes.. It has become overdone. Inviting people with a separate insert in the invitation is ridiculous. It should only involve the wedding party. Feed them something nice afterwards. The groom's cake can be cut then. And of course, another( moan) set of gifts. The groom's family should step up, man up and foot the bill.

That's totally fine. You don't have to go overboard. In fact, I think a nice get together at a house sounds better than a sit down dinner....more chance for people to mingle.

A rehearsal dinner can absolutely be a nice, casual event, and a way to relax before the big day.

I would actually be more okay with a casual RD than extra formal. I don't even feel that they're necessary, I wouldn't do it if it's pushing against my budget

I WISH it could be this casual for mine but FMIL is talking about having it at a restaurant on the water and has mentioned inviting some OOT guests..im trying to talk her down some still. At this rate, I think the rehearsal dinner is going to be a fancier set up than the reception.

Geez Louise, if you want to call something tacky, come out and say it. Don't hide behind a flimsy excuse. I'm sure since subway and jimmy johns are cesspools of food borne pathogens they will soon be sued out of existence, cough cough.

And seriously I have gotten food poisoning from pizza but not a sandwich tray so far in my life.

This sounds fine! We are ordering pizza and having beer/wine on hand for ours. Casual is totally acceptable for these!

I think that's perfect and low key! I would much prefer this then going out.

Ours was casual, we did catered BBQ in my ILs backyard. Their house is on a lake, it was nice and casual. We had a bonfire later on at night. It was a good way to relax and have fun with the BP members before the craziness the next day!

Not tacky at all. Rehearsal dinners can be super casual because who wants to pay for a second reception? lol that's what people tend to turn them into. Enjoy your sandwiches

Thank you! Your responses convince my FH. To clarify, we would use a great local deli for the food, some salads, little sweets from a bakery. My brother starts work at 4 am can walk in, get food and leave, the 2 out of towers and retirees can linger over coffee.
